As controversy continues to swirl around Brooke Smith's firing from Grey's Anatomy, EW's Michael Ausiello offers the following insight in his weekly Q&A session ...
Q: What the heck about Brooke Smith leaving on Grey's Anatomy? And her last episode is this Thursday? And Hahn's final scene consists of her leaving work for the day? Insanity.
A: I'm going to give Shonda Rhimes the benefit of the doubt and assume she's intentionally leaving Hahn's exit ambiguous and, therefore, open to interpretation. Sort of like the Sopranos finale. Did Hahn get shot to death on the way to the parking garage? Did she pull a Thelma & Louise and drive her car off a cliff? Did the hospital's automatic doors malfunction and decapitate her? Did she return to Weeds? The possibilities are endless. Personally, I'm leaning toward the Thelma & Louise scenario. According to one of my Grey's Anatomy moles, Callie and Erica have a big, relationship-severing blowout in tomorrow's episode that starts with an argument over whether Izzie paid a big enough price for her role in Denny-gate (guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan also supposedly makes an appearance tonight!), and ends with Callie realizing she doesn't love girls as much as Erica does. Hey, people have killed themselves over less.

A couple of Grey's Anatomy spoilers from EW and TV Guide this morning ...
Q: Any Grey's Anatomy scoop?
A: Brooke Smith wasn't the only Seattle Grace staffer expunged under suspicious circumstances in the past year. Two other familiar, albeit lower profile, faces were given the boot, and I'm shocked eagle-eyed Grey's fans haven't picked up on it yet.
[INSIDER NOTE: Who was it? Does anyone know?]
Q: I'm dying for Christina and Owen to get together on Grey's Anatomy.
A: Well, this is certainly a positive step in that direction: Kevin McKidd has been promoted to a series regular.
Q: After watching the promo for the next episode of Grey's Anatomy, I must ask: Is there anything for Mer-Der fans to look forward to? You know, other than three women lying in Meredith's bed while Derek lives downstairs?
A: Well when you phrase it like that, you make me think that Melissa George's debut this week as Sadie, a college pal of Meredith's, will only further muddle things for the would-be Mr. and Mrs. Derek Shepherd. But maybe not. Consider this: Sadie's arrival will prompt Cristina - who feels displaced by her BFF's old BFF - to be a better sounding board for Derek, and that just might ease the tension in the lovebirds' overcrowded nest

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has some interesting Grey's Anatomy spoilers in his Q&A today, and even a direct quote from Shonda Rhimes about the Izzie-Denny story line.
Read on and follow the jump for the latest on what's to come ...
Q: What the hell is going on with Grey's Anatomy's Denny and Izzie?
A: Don't be so quick to judge, people. Who among us hasn't gone to first base with a dead ex at least once in our lives? Exactly.
Q: Okay, I'm officially worried that Izzie really does have a brain tumor and Shonda Rhimes is paving the way for Katherine Heigl's departure at the end of the season.
A: Hold on ... I've got Shonda Rhimes on the line ... She says she heard through the grapevine that I've been flooded with hundreds of e-mails from mostly irate and confused Grey's Anatomy fans wondering WTF is going on with this bizarre love story between a dead Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and an alive Izzie ... The show's creator and executive producer says she'd like to address readers directly via this exclusive statement ...
"I think that the love triangle with Denny, Izzie, and Alex is among the most interesting we've ever done. Watching the chemistry between Jeffrey and Katherine again has been really touching. I can't wait for our viewers to see where we're taking it. But what it won't involve is Izzie having a brain tumor."
Alright, so the brain tumor theory is out the window. What does that leave in the way of logical explanations?
Q: What's next for Callie (Sara Ramirez) on Grey's Anatomy now that Hahn's gone?
A: The official ABC logline for the December 4 episode, "All My Myself," includes this little morsel: "Callie can't figure out if Sadie is just friendly or flirtatious." Translation: Sadie is next for Callie.

Michael Ausiello of EW has a lot of good stuff on Grey's Anatomy in his weekly spoiler Q&A today. He covers everything from the absence of George to the portrayal of Dr. Dixon, to Mark Sloan and "Little Grey" and more on Hahn's dismissal. Here goes ...
Q: Tell me more about this Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover. I'm intrigued.
A: It'll take place over the course of three episodes (February 5, 12, and 19) and the only confirmed participant as of now is Kate Walsh.
Q: I didn't think Shonda Rhimes could ever come up with anything worse than Gizzie on Grey's Anatomy, but this ghost Denny business is about one episode away from officially being the worst thing the show has ever done. Please tell me it will be over soon!
A: Afraid not. Denny will be haunting Izzie at least through February. In possibly related news, the title of episode 14 is "Beat Your Heart Out." Hmmm....
Q: Is Mary McDonnell going to be back on Grey's Anatomy? I loved her Dr. Dixon. I watched last week's episode thinking she'd be back, but she wasn't.
A: Her second of three episodes, "All By Myself," airs December 4. Personally, I wasn't a fan. You know I worship the ground McDonnell walks on, but I found her Asperger's depiction a tad over the top. And I'm not alone. Megan, a self-proclaimed Aushole and Asperger's sufferer, called the portrayal "robotic and single focused - which we are but not to that degree. Grey's Anatomy missed the boat on this one. Instead of normal with slight social misperceptions, it came off as a bad version of a high-functioning autistic, and they're two different things."
Q: Enough with Izzie-Denny and Cristina-Owen. I'm surprised that no one has asked about another "situation" that I've noticed on Grey's Anatomy since the season began: The slow and steady flirtation between Mark and Lexie. Where are they going with this?
A: To first base in early '09, and I can't wait. McSteamy is actually making Lexie (gulp) interesting.
Q: Why has T.R. Knight had only a few scenes per episode on Grey's Anatomy recently?
A: I did some digging and, unfortunately, there's nothing juicy to report. I'm told it's just part of the natural ebb and flow of storylines. He'll start flowing again next year when he gets mixed up in the Alex-Izzie-Denny story, but not in any romantic sort of capacity. Shonda may be kooky but she's not a masochist.
Q: How come ABC has issues with lesbians on Grey's Anatomy, but no problem with all the guy-on-guy make-out sessions on Brothers & Sisters?
A: I honestly don't think the suits at ABC are scared of gay men or lesbians. They just despised the character of Erica Hahn and her romance with Callie Torres. And as soon as they had proof that the audience agreed, they dumped Brooke Smith. As an ABC insider explained, "In the process of doing some maintenance polling, the sample group for Grey's Anatomy hated the Callie/Erica coupling while still liking Callie."

Dr. Erica Hahn is long gone, but is Callie Torres' bisexuality? Perhaps not. Here's a brief Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news item from E! Online's weekly Q&A ...
Q: Got anything on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Even though Erica (Brooke Smith) didn't think Callie was much of a lesbian, she's still exploring her sexuality, despite mourning the loss of Dr. Hahn, and in this week's episode she suspects Sadie (Melissa George) might be into her. Still, a source reports that although there is what seems like an initial flirtation, it doesn't go anywhere. Plus, Mark and Little Grey continue circling each other. Is that kind of cute or kind of gross.

What is the deal with the love life of Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)?
Hahn is out ... Sadie is possibly in ... Mark is always hanging around.
Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, Jessica Capshaw is joining Grey's Anatomy for a three-episode story arc as pediatrician Dr. Arizona Robbins, who comes to Seattle Grace to help Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) on a difficult surgical case.
That much isn't new - but now the word is that she's also going to share at least one kiss with Callie! Arizona will be a love interest for Callie for those episodes.
But what about Sadie (Melissa George) and the insinuation in last night's episode, "All By Myself," that Callie and Sadie might be heading toward a romance?
Sources say despite their initial flirtation, this will not really go anywhere. But that does not mean Sadie will be totally out of the love loop at Seattle Grace.
"She'll be having lots [of love interests]," Melissa George said. "Of course, it's Grey's Anatomy. Everybody loves everybody. The girls, the guys, everybody."

Grey's Anatomy watchers who don't want to know the big secret behind Denny Duquette's afterlife love affair with Izzie Stevens should turn back now.
Michael Ausiello of EW has gotten to the bottom of it.
It looks like creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes wasn't lying when she said last month that a brain tumor wasn't what was causing Izzie's strange case of seeing (and doing a whole lot more with) dead people. But she was also being a little sneaky.
But what could it be? Moreover, how does ABC feel about the plot line, and where is it going from here? Find out what's going on with Izzie after the jump ...
Izzie's hallucinations are health-related - and brain-related.
According to sources, although the specific name of the ailment is being kept in the safe underneath Rhimes' desk, it's reportedly similar to an aneurysm.
Every time it flares up, she sees Denny. When it really flares up, she shags him.
Interestingly, Izzie's aneurysm (or whatever the disorder is) was never intended to be fatal. Plans change, but, per an ABC insider, Shonda Rhimes didn't cook up this story in order to grant Katherine Heigl's alleged wish to be killed off the show.
Rather, the Grey's Anatomy boss wanted to give her actress the thing she allegedly wanted, and that eluded her last season: some great, Emmy-worthy material.
Say what you want about the story, Katherine Heigl has delivered.
For their part, ABC execs remain divided except for on one point: Everyone acknowledges that the plot is asking the audience to take a huge leap.
"It's definitely an unorthodox story, but I trust in Shonda," maintains one suit, who says the press will eviscerate the network no matter what they do.
"If we interfere, we get blamed for messing with someone's creative vision. If we don't do anything, we get blamed for the backlash. You really can't win."
Another insider says ABC execs are getting antsy waiting for the audience to find out about the underlying medical issue fueling Izzie's spectral romance.
So antsy, in fact, that they are applying some light pressure on Rhimes to speed up the reveal. Once you know the reason why Izzie and Denny are interacting, their logic assumes, you will be much more willing to go along for the ride.

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly broke the news of T.R. Knight's impending departure from Grey's Anatomy. Today, he's got more information on that huge piece of news, additional Grey's Anatomy spoilers, rumors and bad baseball metaphors ...
Q: Okay, what's the real story behind T.R. Knight's probable exit?
A: Another Grey's Anatomy mole just checked in, so let's ask him... "He's an actor. He wants to act. It's that simple." In other words, the 16 minutes of screen time George O'Malley has had this season? Not cutting it.
Q: I'm devastated about T.R. Knight's Grey's Anatomy departure. Is there any chance that he'll change his mind?
A: Not unless ABC forces him to, but that's unlikely. My guess is an exit agreement will be brokered before the holidays and Knight will make his final appearance around mid-season.
Q: I know you can't tell us who the "fired actor" blind item is about, but can you tell us who it's not about? Please tell me it's not McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey.
A: It's not Patrick Dempsey. And that was your Last. Clue. Ever. At least until said actor-actress officially gets the hook, at which point all will be revealed.
Q: You said Mark and Lexie wouldn't reach first base on Grey's Anatomy until early '09. I'm pretty sure we were still in '08 last Thursday when the two of them hit a home run. What gives?
A: Sorry, I got my dates mixed up. And I suck at baseball. I thought getting to first base was a home run.
Q: I love Lexie and Mark together! Please tell the Grey's Anatomy writers are going somewhere with this story.
A: The Grey's Anatomy writers are going somewhere with this story. Where exactly? Let me try this again... They'll score multiple touchdowns and at least two slam-dunks during the second half of the season.
Q: So happy about Eric Stoltz on Grey's Anatomy! Anything else on his storyline?
A: Contrary to speculation, his serial killer character is not going to murder George during a Seattle Grace hostage crisis. Rather, he's there to receive medical attention after he suffers a major beat down in prison. His three-episode arc takes a surprising turn around episode 2.

Here are a few items from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos this morning, concerning the rumored departure of T.R. Knight. It's still not confirmed, but appears likely ...
Q: Is our George really leaving Grey's Anatomy? As a Gizzie and George fan, I hope not.
A: The latest I've heard from insiders is that yes, T.R. Knight did ask to get out of his contract, and so far, no final decision or details have been reached, but it is likely he we will go. However, you should know that according to ABC sources, T.R. is not the first Grey's Anatomy cast member to ask out of a contract. There have been at least two others in recent years. Any guesses?
Q: Got any more scoop on T.R. leaving Grey's Anatomy?
A: When asked whether T.R. is leaving, Eric Dane tells us: "I don't know how true that is, but if it were, it would certainly be a loss. I don't think there's any truth to that until I'm told otherwise." I'm told that pretty much the entire cast and crew is being kept in the dark as to what is really going on. Still, T.R. Knight remains close friends with Katherine Heigl. They were spotted having dinner Thursday at BLVD 16 with Katherine's hubby, Josh Kelley, and her mom Nancy.

Here's a little piece of Grey's Anatomy gossip from the spoiler Q&A in EW today, courtesy of Eric Dane. Nothing particularly new, but certainly worth passing along ...
Q: Please, please, please tell me there's a chance T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) is not leaving Grey's Anatomy! Will they really let one of the original five leave?
A: Let's ask Knight's co-star, Eric Dane: "I have not heard confirmation [that he's leaving] yet. I don't know anything about when or how. If that happens, of course I would be bummed. He's a great guy to work with and a great character for the show, but he's gotta do what he feels is right." For his part, Dane has no plans to flee Seattle Grace before his contract expires - particularly now that Mark is McSteaming up the sheets with Lexie. "It is a good place to work and there are good people behind and in front of the cameras. I'm not going anywhere. I just started getting some action again. Why would I leave?"

With speculation swirling that T.R. Knight wants out of Grey's Anatomy, people have all but written off his beloved character, George O'Malley - this fan site included.
But Eric Dane insists it's not official, and this recent news / spoiler item we came across indicates that maybe - just maybe - George's departure is not a done deal.
This from TV Guide's Matt Mitovich, in response to a reader inquiry ...
Q: Is there any indication that Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes is going to adjust her stories because of all of the recent negative feedback?
A: I doubt that Rhimes will alter any master plans, especially when it comes to the Izzie-Denny romance which, though polarizing, seems destined to serve some greater purpose. Now, speaking of "negative feedback," I've got at least one inside source telling me that T.R. Knight's apparent disenchantment with Grey's Anatomy might not necessarily result in him exiting the series early. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see cooler heads prevail?

TV Guide backs that theory up in its Q&A session today, indicating that what has been a season free of MerDer strife so far may soon take a different turn:
Q: Got any scoop on Grey's Anatomy's Meredith and Derek? Do you have any idea when we'll see the McMansion being built?
A: In lieu of talking drywall (there's no foreseeable movement on Derek and Meredith's dream home, unfortunately), may I interest you in some drama? It turns out that the death row inmate who is admitted to Seattle Grace this week could do some damage to your MerDer. Guest star Eric Stoltz teases that during his three-episode arc, "I certainly insinuate myself into their relationship and am the source of not a little strife."

Below are a couple of Grey's Anatomy spoilers from E! Online, one following up on the departure of Melissa George and the other related to Owen and Cristina ...
Q: Is Melissa George really leaving Grey's Anatomy? Why?
A: According to my sources, ABC wasn't able to (or didn't want to, depending on whom you ask) pony up the money to get her to stay on. Will you miss her and her character, Sadie, or was she doomed from the start? Meanwhile, she had this to say on Globes night about working on Grey's Anatomy: "I love it! I was just in Buenos Aires with T.R. Knight. So we had a great time, a really good time, and I love the show, and I can't wait to work on Tuesday."
Q: When will Owen and Cristina hook up for real?
A: It's coming. Kevin McKidd reveals, "They're doing good - they're getting close to the real deal. I think they find it hard to be together, hard to get it together because they're quite complex people. I think we will eventually, but we haven't quite gotten there together yet

Here are some quality Grey's Anatomy spoilers from Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. Read on and let us know what you think about these developments ...
Q: Loving Lexie and Mark on Grey's Anatomy. Anything good coming up for them?
A: They experience a little bit of a setback next week that's connected to this ABC teaser: "An injury leaves Mark in a compromising position in the ER." And now the official translation: McSteamy fractures his McPenis!
Q: C'mon, your info on Grey's Anatomy has been non-existent recently. Please give me some of the good stuff - I want juicy plot goodness, MerDer related, preferably.
A: I'm hearing something about a ring and a possible proposal later this season.
Q: What's the latest on T.R. Knight leaving Grey's Anatomy?
A: I posed that question to exiting Grey's Anatomy star Melissa George, and she claimed reports of T.R.'s unhappiness have been greatly exaggerated. "The day the rumors came out we were doing a scene in the cafeteria, and the admiration for him and his set persona was so high and so brilliant, that we were all laughing about it." However, Melissa didn't deny that T.R. has been frustrated by his lack of screen time this season. "He's an extraordinary actor, and when you care about your craft, you want to work - you want to use it. It's like being a doctor and they never give you a surgery... But you know what? The guy's got a future beyond Grey's Anatomy, whether that's now or later, or whenever."

TV Guide has the details on the February 12 and February 19 episodes of Grey's Anatomy, in which Private Practice characters Sam, Naomi, Addison and her brother Archer visit Seattle Grace after learning of Archer's serious brain condition.
Archer (Grant Show) first returns to Oceanside the previous episode, February 5. Looks like Addison and Mark will reprise their old ways - or at least flirt a bit in one episode.

Here's a little item concerning Derek and Meredith's possible engagement on Grey's Anatomy (which we discussed yesterday) from TV Guide's spoiler Q&A ...
Q: So Grey's Anatomy's Derek has got his mother's ring. Now what?
A: Dude needs to unload it and quick, I'd say! Instead (sigh), he will hold onto it long enough for virtually every Seattle Gracer - Meredith Grey excluded, of course - to learn of the bauble's being and in turn offer their two cents on when and how he should pop the
Q. Will Der stick to his original plan? And if so, does it involve a meticulously crafted arrangement of candles?

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly is dishing on all things Grey's Anatomy in his weekly Q&A today. Of course, there's still plenty left unresolved. Here's what he's got:
Q: If Denny is all in Izzie's head on Grey's Anatomy, how can he appear in scenes without her, like the one in last week's episode where he was sitting on the edge of the bed with Alex?
A: Hmm. That's a great question. Let me ask ABC president Steve McPherson and get back to you. Because if I learned anything at press tour last week, it’s that McPherson loves to discuss the goings-on at Grey's Anatomy, both on screen and off.
Q: Seriously, how much longer is Denny going to be around for on Grey's Anatomy? Love Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but it's just not working for me.
A: He'll be around at least through March, since that's when Izzie's aneurysm-esque medical condition finally gets diagnosed.
Q: I am loving the new doctor Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) on Grey's Anatomy. Any news on whether they plan to keep her on?
A: They're grooming her as a love interest for Callie (Sara Ramirez), so I suspect she'll be staying put for now. Speaking of which, look for Callie to seek advice from Addison about her feelings for Arizona in the February 12 crossover with Private Practice.

A little Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news update from E! Online this morning, detailing the future of the oft-discussed T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) ...
Q: What's the latest on T.R. Knight leaving Grey's Anatomy?
A: A Grey's Anatomy insider claims that the end of the season and next season have not yet been decided. When asked if he thinks T.R. Knight will be back for Season Six (beginning next fall), ABC President Steve McPherson says, "At this point, yeah, I have no reason not to." As for what's going on behind the scenes, he says, "I just wish everyone would do their jobs and do the show."

Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly has a brief tidbit on what happens in the upcoming Private Practice / Grey's Anatomy crossover event in his spoiler Q&A today.
Here's what he says is on tap:
Q: What is the cast of Private Practice going to do over at Grey's Anatomy?
A: Filling Meredith's pretty little head with shocking stories about Derek's early days ** * **********. And believe me, that's not a good thing. Funny? Yes. Good? No.
Can you fill in the blanks? In a fraternity, perhaps?
On a similar note, Matt Mitovich of TV Guide also says Derek's past will be touched upon in these episodes, as Addison, her brother Archer, and perhaps even Sam and Naomi (from their medical school days) share a history with McDreamy as well.

As if there weren't enough to discuss, Michael Ausiello of EW has some interesting Grey's Anatomy gossip today - blatantly teasing us with gaps to fill in. See what you think ...
Q: You publish an all-Grey's Anatomy spoilers Q&A edition and say absolutely nothing about Mark and Lexie? I'm disappointed. But being the big person that I am, I'm giving you a chance to make up for it. So, what have you got on them?
A: In tonights episode, Mark confesses his love for Lexie, but I'm attaching three asterisks to this spoiler. Asterisk 1: It's actually Derek he tells. Asterisk 2: He doesn't say it as much as he implies it. Asterisk 3: Izzie *** **** ******!
Q: Got any juicy Grey's Anatomy scoop?
A: There was a rumor going around Friday that Katherine Heigl had finally wiggled her way out of her Grey's Anatomy contract. However, an ABC insider vehemently denies it. The source insists that Shonda Rhimes has already mapped out the final episodes of the season and nothing in them points to an imminent Izzie exit. Well, except for that whole ****** thing.
