Grey's' Boss Dissects the Finale Shockers and SecretsMay 23, 2008 Viewers weren't the only ones surprised by the Grey's Anatomy finale shocker on Thursday. No, Shonda Rhimes wrote Friday in her blog that she kept the Mer-in-a-pool-of-blood secret from the show's other writers, up until the very last moment she could. The reason behind Rhimes' long wait is that, she explained, she starts with the last scene of her finales before stepping back to plan out what comes before it. Yes, that means that she's pitching the end of Season 5 Friday (!), and that Thursday's big finale underpinnings were actually hatched four years ago. For Rhimes, though, the big moment was not in the kiss, but in the moments after. "For this season," she explains, "I knew immediately that I wanted more hope. I knew I personally NEEDED more hope. So I pitched Meredith standing on Derek’s land in a field of candles telling Derek where the living room could be, where the kitchen could be, where the kids could play. Because I wanted them together." The trick for Rhimes, though, was getting Mer there, and the key, she realized, was in what Ellis Grey told her as she lay dying: Be extraordinary. Not in surgery — but in love. "[That] made it possible for Mer to stand in a field of candles because once she realizes that, her whole world opens up," Rhimes writes. "She can just stand there in her joy." And as for Callie, Erica and Mark? Rhimes promises that, while Sloan won't become anyone's hero, per se, there's some more evolution in store for a complicated story. "You'll be very surprised when you find out where this story is heading next season," she said. "Because we don't do things the easy way. And none of this will be easy." Of course, don't expect anything too warm and fuzzy. That, Rhimes reminds us, is what makes it Grey's Anatomy. What could she be thinking up for this time, next year? Sadly, we're all going to have to wait. — Anna Dimond Source: TV Guide

Season Four ended just one week ago, but speculation has already turned to Season Five (can you believe it) of Grey’s Anatomy next fall.
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello has some gossip about the length of next season as well as a big Grey’s Anatomy spoiler involving a character who shared in one of last Thursday’s major kisses - and may be in for a surprise.
Question: Now that the Grey’s finale has aired, can you tell us which kiss was the “major” one that Shonda Rhimes was talking about? Ausiello: Based on her morning-after post-mortem, I think she was referring to Mer-Der’s big smooch. Personally, the Alex-Izzie kiss was the only one that made me “lean into the TV.”
Question: I just watched an interview with Patrick Dempsey where he mentions that Season Five of Grey’s Anatomy will be 30-34 episodes long. Any scoop on that? Ausiello: Really? He said that? My sources are telling me it’ll be closer to 24 episodes.
Question: Got any Grey’s Anatomy scoop? Ausiello: I hear someone may be preggers — and that someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale!

All the Callica (Callie and Erica) fans are dying for some gossip on what will become of Grey's Anatomy's lesbian romance in Season Five.
There's the pregnancy rumor which has been addressed quite a bit, but there must be something else, right? Are they officially a couple?
Is Erica too emotionally guarded and stunted for a relationship? And where does the great Mark Sloan fit in when it comes to Callie?
TV Guide's Matt Mitovich doesn't have too much to add in the Grey's Anatomy spoiler department, but he does say this in his new column:
"Oh, the poor Callica fans and their cute little couple name. Well, things are going to be... awkward between the two docs when Grey's Anatomy comes back. And the pregnancy rumor, I hear from one source, is pure hogwash."
Hmm... does that mean there's no pregnant Callie, or no pregnant character at all?

Here's a Grey's Anatomy spoiler from TV Guide that you may not like: Rose may be no shrinking violet when it comes to getting dumped by Derek.
Given the cozy, candle-burning climax of Grey's Anatomy's Season 4 finale, it's no big surprise that Lauren Stamile's run may be nearing its end.
But this oh-so-nice nurse won't be scrubbed out quietly.
Sources reveal that when Rose learns she has been excised from the star surgeon's love life, she plays it cool ... but only with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo).
On the flip side, she is far from laid back about the whole thing with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) the boyfriend she had started to fall in love with.
"I'd count on at least one emotional outburst," said a source on the Grey's Anatomy set. "Rose is not her usual composed self with Derek."
Moreover, while there has been talk that Lauren Stamile will only appear in the two-hour (!) Season 5 opener, there are also rumblings that Rose may remain a thorn (sorry for the pun) in the supercouple's side a bit longer than that.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some interesting Grey's Anatomy spoilers and news courtesy of venerable TV spy Michael Ausiello, now with Entertainment Weekly, in his recent column ...
Q: I’ve got a burning Grey’s Anatomy question leftover from your TV Guide days: Which of those many Season Four finale smooches was the big “major kiss no one would see coming” that Shonda Rhimes alluded to? A: Well, contrary to popular belief, she was not referring to Mer and Der’s candlelit trailer park pucker. As Shonda Rhimes said, although she feels all of the kisses featured in the episode “were worth leaning into the television for,” the one she felt was the most surprising “was Alex and Izzie. But my personal favorite is Bailey kissing Baby Tuck."
Q: Is Katherine Heigl still employed at Grey’s Anatomy?A: She showed up to this season’s first table read last week, so it looks like it. Oh, to be a fly on that wall.
Q: Got anything new on Grey’s Anatomy? Please tell me they’ve gotten rid of Rose!A: Nope, she (i.e. Lauren Stamile) was at the staff table read, too! And as TV Guide reported yesterday, she was doing what she does best: stirring up trouble!
Q: Please make our week by spilling anything you know about the Shonda Rhimes-penned two-hour Grey's Anatomy Season Five premiere. A: There will be a slight time lapse between the May finale and the new season premiere. We’re talking more than a few days and less than a month.
Q: Any Grey's Anatomy scoop, specifically related to Callie and Erica?A: There’s a rumor going around that Callie will start off the season pregnant (with a little McSteamy in the oven), but a reliable Grey’s Anatomy insider insists it’s “not true.”

TV Guide has some good and bad news related to Meredith and Derek on the upcoming season of Grey's Anatomy. We'll start with the good. The good news: They're together! The bad news: Do either of them have any idea what "together" means? Not really. When the action picks back up, they'll be trying to figure out how being a mutually committed couple "works," driving everybody around them crazy in the process. -------------------------------------------------------- have spilled the beans to E! Online regarding a cool and noteworthy location change for the upcoming Season Five - one that may reveal some exciting details about what's ahead for Meredith and Derek. The set for Seattle Grace Hospital has moved to another soundstage (one occupied by The Shield until recently) at Prospect Studios in L.A. As for the original soundstage, they have built... this: In the interest of full disclosure here, we can't say for sure whether this photo is exactly it or just a representation of what it will look like. But we do know this for a fact - according to sources connected with the series, the original Grey's Anatomy soundstage has indeed been converted into a lovely home that will be occupied by none other than the great Dr. Derek Shepherd. You may remember that as of last May's season finale, Derek had a beautiful plot of land that he offered up to Meredith for their dream house, and Meredith finally came around and offered up a beautiful floor plan. Made of candles!

Some Grey's Anatomy spoiler action from E! Online ...
Q: Any Grey's Anatomy love for the older kids at the hospital?
A: Gladly. Word has it that Chief Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) is going to be whipping the staff into shape when Seattle Grace starts to slip in the national rankings as one of the best teaching hospitals in the country. Seattle Grace not running smoothly? With all of those on-call room "naps," who would have guessed.
Q: Are Yang and Torres still going to be living together next season on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Grey's Anatomy spies have said that, pre-writer's strike, there was going to be a little Three's Company action going on with Hahn, Torres and Yang. Now that the romantic Callie-Erica relationship has been established, it's unknown if the lovebirds be moving in together, or where Cristina fits into that.
TV sleuth Michael Ausiello has a little tidbit about Grey's Anatomy in his weekly news and spoiler report from across the TV landscape. Nothing great, but any news - no matter how small - is appreciated during the summer!
Q: Please, any new scoop from Grey's Anatomy?
A: The green-eyed monster has once again reared its ugly head on the show's set, but this time it's not salary drama or spin-off envy fueling the rancor: It's those lucky bastards in dermatology! An upcoming episode will find some of our favorite residents wandering over to Seattle Grace's never-before-seen dermatology department - and they will not be happy with what they find. Namely, the kind of posh work environment more consistent with a five-star spa than a hospital.

What's the latest on the embattled Katherine Heigl and her character Izzie Stevens, who's rumored to be on the chopping block in the upcoming fifth season of Grey's Anatomy? Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello says ...
Q: What's the latest on the whole "Izzie gets a brain tumor" rumor?
A: It's been replaced by the completely new "Izzie falls for the deer whose life she saved last season" rumor. Think I'm nuts? Check out what Shonda Rhimes just told TV Guide: “Izzie’s got a love story – and it’s a big one, one that I’ve been kicking around in my head for a bit, one that required me to take a huge leap of faith in myself, one that is so secret that I have not told anyone. Not the writers, not anyone." What else could it be, right? The only other thing I can think of is that she hooks up with her estranged daughter's adoptive father. Nah, it's gotta be the deer.

E! Online has uncovered some solid Grey's Anatomy spoilers after sitting down for a one-on-one talk with the always intriguing Eric Dane, who hinted at a big romance coming up for his character, Mark Sloan, in the upcoming season five.
Some of these Grey's Anatomy spoilers are actually kind of juicy. If you wish to learn some of the details Dane shared, as well as what's up in the love lives of Drs. Izzie Stevens and Meredith Grey, you'll have to follow the jump ...
Is McSteamy finding the McOne?
The always steamy Eric Dane hinted that Dr. Mark Sloan might finally meet his romantic match this year, telling E!'s Kristin Dos Santos:
"I think he's going to [find real love] this season. I don't know how long that's going to last. The nature of the show is people don't stay together very long. We always end up back together, and then we break up again, then we get back together again — but I think this year he's going to find somebody."
Now, the money question: Is it someone we know?
"I hope so," Eric said with his signature, mischievous grin, making one think it is most definitely someone we've already met. Any guesses?
According to another Grey's Anatomy source, McSteamy and Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) share a scene in episode three, which is shooting now.
He's single, she's single, he's McSteamy, she's Meredith's sister, the Grey girls love McDoctors ... Double McGrey wedding for the finale?
That's just one theory, of course. Now back to the gossip.
What are we to make of Shonda Rhimes' statement to TV Guide this week that "Izzie's (Katherine Heigl) got a love story — and it's a big one, one that I've been kicking around in my head for a bit, one that required me to take a huge leap of faith in myself, one that is so secret that I have not told anyone. Not the writers, not anyone."
Could that possibly mean an appearance by the daughter that Izzie gave up for adoption when she was a teen? E! says that storyline would be resurfacing at some point - and no one said "love story" means romance, right?
Lastly on the Grey's Anatomy spoiler front, many of the new medical stories this season will involve couples whose relationships could shed some light on that of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey).
In one case, when a wife throws a remote control at her man, the resulting examination of his skull reveals a tumor. Expect Meredith to learn a little something by the end of this particular episode about arguments in long-term relationships that applies to fight night at the McMansion.
In particular, the lesson is, you know, "Use your words!"

TvGuide interview
It's too early to tell for sure, but at least from the spoilers and news we've read, Season 5 of Grey’s Anatomy is shaping up like a total love-fest.
First and foremost, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are finally moving in together — to the delight of millions of viewers.
But don’t count on them walking down the aisle soon.
“Wouldn’t a wedding be too predictable?” Pompeo asks, rhetorically, in the new issue of TV Guide. “Would Meredith even wear a wedding dress?”
A fair question. But even without a wedding, the on-again, off-again couple will take a break from the breaking up and finally get a chance to explore life after “happily ever after,” says creator / producer Shonda Rhimes.
“The first three episodes start the dynamic of where we are all going,” Rhimes tells TV Guide. “Meredith is trusting him and moving forward cautiously, and Derek is waiting there, saying, ‘I’m here to support you.’”
Just for kicks, how would a Mer-Der wedding look?
“Cristina would come to Vegas with Meredith and Derek,” Ellen Pompeo said. “Then I’d leave her at the slot machines and go get hitched.”
Other Grey's Anatomy characters are also in for changes in their love lives when Season Five commences. Follow the jump to read more ...
“Izzie’s got a love story — and it’s a big one, one that I’ve been kicking around in my head for a bit, one that required me to take a huge leap of faith in myself, one that is so secret that I have not told anyone. Not the writers, not anyone,” Rhimes says of the character played by Katherine Heigl.
As for Callie-Erica? And the always-conflicted George? Shonda says ...
“George (T.R. Knight) and Lexie’s (Chyler Leigh) love story is going to take an incredibly unexpected turn. Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Erica (Brooke Smith) have a love story of their own. And, yes, it includes Mark (Eric Dane).”
Lastly, Sandra Oh’s character, Cristina Yang, is finally moving past ex-fiancé Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), who left the show after season three.
“She’s been alone for a whole season,” Rhimes says. “That’s going to change. See, there’s this military guy who ... well, you have to watch to find out."

What's new on the Cristina Yang romance front? According to E! Online, there appearance of new guest star Kevin McKidd has been confirmed:
Q: Any new gossip on the new addition to Grey's Anatomy, Kevin McKidd? A: If you've seen the latest Grey's Anatomy promo (yes, the one where Rose lies and we all freaked) there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it tease of McKidd and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). Those two are so on, and I'm liking it
Rumors and speculation surrounding the September 25 Season Five premiere of Grey's Anatomy have reached new heights. Now Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly is about to make things even worse for us ...
Q: Can you tell me if Derek gets hurt in the Grey's Anatomy season premiere?
A: Judging by that infamous promo, ABC certainly wants you to think that, right? Well, allow me to clear things up for you - by way of a multiple-choice quiz! I can confirm that two of the following take place in the season premiere - one for real and the other in Meredith's imagination (the other two are outright foilers):
Rose stabs Derek. Derek suffers a heart attack and is visited by the ghost of Denny. Dr. Burke returns to Seattle Grace and shoots Derek in the face before turning the gun on himself. In a flashback, we learn that Derek got into a car accident shortly after leaving Meredith in the candle field.
Think you've got it figured out? Well, scroll down to the comments section and answer the following questions: Which incident occurs for real? Which one does Mer imagine? And which two are thrown in just for kicks?
Q: Please tell me Cristina Yang's new love interest on Grey's Anatomy (a.k.a. Kevin McKidd) is here to stay!
A: His first episode hasn't even aired yet - how do you know the two of them are any good together? Have you seen a rough cut of the premiere or something? If so, how 'bout you burn me a copy on the DL? In return, I'll share with you some good news: Although McKidd's status is technically still recurring, I'll be shocked if he isn't made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. Literally doing cartwheels. My Grey's Anatomy mole saw her doing one in the parking lot last Thursday.
Q: Anything else on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Don't be surprised if the season premiere leaves you a little, um, Lost. No, the Chief isn't going to turn the donkey wheel in the basement and make Seattle Grace disappear. Rather, a flash forwardish sequence will show us what two characters might be up to several years in the future.

Some Grey's Anatomy spoilers and gossip from Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online ...
Q: So what's the deal with the new promos for Grey's Anatomy? A: After a couple of promos that were a wee bit misleading (including the infamous one where McDreamy supposedly dies), we now have a glorious payoff: A sneak peek of Cristina's first meeting with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd of Journeyman).
Q: On Grey's Anatomy, I heard that McSteamy got Callie pregnant and that their baby is the new love in his life. Tell me it's true! McSteamy offspring would be sooo cute. A: As much as I agree on the cute, I checked, and this will not come to pass. According to my sources, Callie is definitely not pregnant, either by McSteamy or George, and don't let nobody tell you different.
Q: George has been with, like, everyone on Grey's Anatomy. He even saw Bailey's vajayjay. Is Lexie next in line for a little O'Malley magic? A: According to my Grey's Anatomy sources, Lexie and George don't have a romance this season that's a major storyline (at least, not in the first part of the season); however, two other doctors we love will be hooking up, and it is most definitely major

Enter Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly ...
Q: Do you have any inside info on what Season 5 of Grey's Anatomy holds for Izzie and Alex? Their chemistry is great.
A: Let's just say you'll have a really good idea where these two are headed by the end of the two-hour opener on September 25 - which, BTW, I just watched and really enjoyed. Turns out Kevin McKidd is all that and a bag of chips.
Q: What's going on with Grey's Anatomy's Callica (Callie and Erica)?!
A: There's an awesome, awkward, totally endearing scene between the two of them at the end of the premiere. Sara Ramirez, in particular, is just fantastic. Meanwhile, looking ahead there's buzz that Callica may not be the only members of Seattle Grace's rapidly expanding LGBT community. There's a rumor going around that when the casting call for the new female intern went out last month, interested parties were told they had to be comfortable making out with both men and women. Coincidence then that the actress who got the role hails from The L Word? Only time will tell!
Q: How about some Grey's Anatomy scoop on someone other than Meredith Grey-Derek Shepherd or Cristina Yang-Owen Hunt?
A: The show is casting the role of a female patient who develops a multi-episode crush on one of the docs. My guess: We're looking at a potential love interest for McSteamy.

Michael Ausiello on the presence (or lack thereof) of a baby in todays fifth season Grey's Anatomy premiere ...
Q: By now you should be able to tell us: Is there a baby in the mix in Grey's Anatomy or not?
A: Not in tomorrow's two-hour premiere there's not.
---
Q: How is my man Kevin McKidd on Grey's Anatomy? A: Whoa. You mean my man Kevin McKidd? ... Ahem, anyway? He is awesome. He is actually my most favoritest part of the Grey's Anatomy premiere and leaves me so weak-kneed and apparently weak-tongued that I can't even use proper grammar. (Help!) I think you will adore the interaction between "Major Hottie" (McKidd) and Cristina Yang. He plays a no-BS Army doctor who is so raw and tough and dirty and... suffice to say that if he were to return later in the season, you would have good reason to watch and rewatch every episode of this series.
Q: Grey's Anatomy is back this week! Do spill! A: Sir, yes sir! Gladly. I've seen this Thursday's two-hour premiere and let me tell you, it is good to have our Seattle Grace friends back — and also good to see that those previews ABC released (Rose pregnant; Derek dying) really weren't true and not a big part of the storyline at all.
Follow the jump for more Grey's Anatomy spoilers ...
Q: Tell us about the Grey's Anatomy premiere, "Dream a Little Dream of Me." A: Where things are left off with Alex and Izzie at the end of the season premiere are not indicative as to what lies ahead this season. (Remember that so you know what I'm saying after you watch the episode.) Also, one of the docs gets stabbed and Sandra Oh rants at Meredith with something some of you fans have been wanting to say for a while now: "Shut up about Derek!" It is an awesome scene. Look for it.
Q: Is Lauren Stamile really gone for good after the premiere? Please say yes! A: Yes. And you will see why in the season premiere - she has a weird Dexter-like moment.
There you have it.

ok.. so one more post then I'm at 100 and its a juicy 100
A quick Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news items from Kristin at E! Online ...
Q: I have a weird question: Why is the next new episode of Grey's Anatomy, "Here Comes the Flood," airing in two weeks? Is it because of the two-hour premiere? How about some scoop on that episode? Maybe the reason why the flood started and what will it do?
A: Grey's Anatomy is off this week because of the good ol' American election campaign: the vice-presidential debate is this Thursday night. Most major networks will preempt their regular programming for Biden vs. Palin. As for the flood, it's caused by a good ol' plumbing leak.
Well, almost. Read on for that and other gossip and spoilers from the world of Grey's Anatomy, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello ...
Q: Any scoop on Grey's Anatomy's Callie and Erica?
A: Their secret affair won't be a secret much longer. Next week, word of their sapphic romance makes its way to two of their colleagues. Also coming up in "Here Comes the Flood," one of last season's most significant relationships comes to an end.
Q: Grey's Anatomy spoilers please!
A: Alex and Izzie contemplate moving in together next week. Well, one of them contemplates it. The other one just says mean and hurtful things.
Q: Any good Mer-Der news?
A: This is more Der than Mer, but the October 16 episode will feature Patrick Dempsey naked, save for one strategically placed pillow. That's pretty good, yes?

An interesting Grey's Anatomy spoiler / news item from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly today, expounding on a scene we've posted previews of ...
Q: Could I pleeeease get some Grey's Anatomy spoilers?
A: Here's your Grey's Anatomy scoop: The long-simmering Mer-Der-Izzie-Alex quadrangle comes to a head this week. Okay, maybe "long-simmering" is a bit much. Basically, Derek gives Meredith an ultimatum about their new living arrangements: "If I move in, your friends [i.e. Izzie and Alex] must move out." I won't reveal how the housing shake-up plays out, but I can tell you that by the end of the episode a new classic TV odd couple will be born. (Hint: The unlikely duo may or may not include any of the folks listed above.)

Here are a pair of interesting Grey's Anatomy spoilers / pieces of gossip from the resident Entertainment Weekly sleuth, Michael Ausiello. See below ...
Q: Where's the Mer-Der hotness this season on Grey's Anatomy? The most we've gotten so far is a kiss on the cheek! What gives?
A: Maybe they need a third party to spice things up? If so, help is on the way! According to my Grey's Anatomy snitch, when Melissa George debuts as Seattle Grace's latest bisexual intern on November 6, we'll learn that she has a history with - holy lipstick lesbians! - Meredith.
Needless to say, Dr. Derek Shepherd is very anxious to find out the exact nature of their history (were they friends without benefits or with benefits?), and (presumably) whether or not it can be repeated. In front of him. Repeatedly.
Q: Alex and Izzie spoilers, please! I've loved them forever!
A: Then something tells me you're going to fall head over heels for next Thursday's episode, which may feature a big Alex-Izzie smooch. And by may I mean definitely will.

Maj. Owen Hunt made quite an impression in the premiere of Season Five. Now it looks like he's coming back, according to this Grey's Anatomy spoiler on E! today ...
Q: Where is "Major Hottie," aka Kevin McKidd, on Grey's Anatomy? I was hoping he was going to be a regular. Do you know if he's coming back? Please, please, please let him come back!
A: Hey, wow, look at that. My calendar says fall sweeps begin Thursday, October 30. How weird. I wonder why I just noticed that? All I know is I hope Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Major Hottie are as on as I hear they are, and that certainly would be a good time to kick off a romance!

A couple of minor Grey's Anatomy spoilers in EW's Q & A session today ...
Q: Any good Grey's Anatomy scoop?
A: Yup, and you're gonna want a hanky when it comes to pass, I have a hunch. The show is casting an 8-10-year-old male patient who wants to live but is realistic about his prospects of doing so. In other words, he's only gonna last three episodes.
Q: ... Tell me when Cristina Yang's amazingly awesome army doctor (Owen Hunt) is coming back to Grey's Anatomy!
A: Kevin McKidd returns briefly this Thursday, and then in full force next week. Speaking of air dates, please note that Melissa George's bisexual intern debuts on November 13, not November 6 as I stated last week. In my defense, bisexuality confuses me.

A little Grey's Anatomy spoiler from TV Guide pertaining to this evening:
Q: What have you got for Grey's Anatomy that isn't about Mer and Der?
A: Mmmm, this made it to my desk just before deadline, and goodness, it's tasty. What you may know from the sneak previews: This week, Mark Sloan counsels the "Mason-Dixon line"-averse Callie on the ways of love. What you don't know: He teaches by doing. What does that mean?!

Time to dust off those brain tumor rumors, writes Michael Ausiello of EW: Katherine Heigl is going to be seeing dead people again on Grey's Anatomy.
For the second time this season, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's deceased Denny will descend from heaven to have a heart-to-heart with his soul mate, Izzie.
ABC declined to comment on the subject, but a Grey's Anatomy mole says that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will appear in the November 6 episode, "Rise Up."
What brings Denny back this time? Here's a tantalizing clue:
Something happens in the episode that could easily set the stage for a Heigl departure at season's end. I'm not saying it will; only that it could.
--------- Below are a couple of Grey's Anatomy spoilers and rumors from E! Online columnist Kristin Dos Santos and her weekly spoiler Q & A session this morning ...
Q: There's a rumor going around about Izzie Stevens being killed off at the end of Season 5. Will there be no happily ever after for Alex and Izzie, a.k.a. the hottest couple on the show?
A: Reliable sources tell me those rumors are bunk and she will not be going anywhere. For the record, Katherine Heigl actually seems quite happy with her storylines this season. When asked about the future of Alex and Izzie, Katherine told me, "There's nothing I can reveal, but it's been awesome. It's been really exciting for me and really, really fun, satisfying work. I love Justin Chambers! How can you not love Justin? Sorry. He is just such a doll. I mean it's weird — I've been working with all of these people for five years. They're like my family. I mean, I see them actually more than my own family! We have so much fun together." And I hear there is definitely more "fun" (of the horizontal nature) for Izzie and Alex up ahead!
Q: Is it true that Meredith Grey will have a sexual history with Melissa George's new intern character, Sadie, on Grey's Anatomy?
A: From the sounds of Michael Ausiello's recent Q&A with Melissa George and from what a reliable source says — "I'm pretty sure they did" — I'd place money on it! By the by, this is pretty much the same storyline I had heard they planned originally for Cristina (Sandra Oh) a few seasons back, but the storyline was changed
--------- Below are this morning's Grey's Anatomy spoilers and news items, culled from Entertainment Weekly (top three) and TV Guide (final item) ...
Q: So what's this big Denny-related story on Grey's Anatomy that could but might not open the door for Katherine Heigl to leave the show?
A: I'll say this: The exit primer I alluded to does not concern any kind of health crisis. Rather, it pertains to a very dark day in Izzie's professional career that rears its ugly head again.
Q: How long is Melissa George under contract for? Not too long I hope - Grey's Anatomy is already too bloated.
A: Reports suggest she's doing at least 11 episodes, but in my recent Q&A with her, she said there's no end date. As for the bloating ... well, are in a hospital. Aren't there pills for that?
Q: President Roslin (a.k.a. Mary McDonnell) on Grey's Anatomy?! Give us the scoop?
A: She debuts November 13, and her Dr. Virginia Dixon character shares something in common with a Bones regular.
Q: When is McArmy coming back to Grey's Anatomy? And please tell me he is going to be part of the cast.
A: As you saw at the end of last Thursday's episode, Army Major Owen Hunt is back in action - and will ruffle some feathers, stat! At this time, Kevin McKidd is on what producers are calling a "strongly recurring" status, but he certainly has the potential to become a series regular
------- Circle November 13 on your calendar as the day Alias' Melissa George debuts as Grey's Anatomy's newest intern, Sadie. The big question on many fans' minds, of course, remains whether Sadie's reported bisexuality and Meredith Grey have intersected.
TV sleuth Michael Ausiello attempts to get to the bottom of that in an interview with Melissa George, published today on Entertainment Weekly ...
Q: Tell me about Sadie.
Melissa George: I'm dying to find out more about her because her behavior is so interesting. She's a girl that walks on the wild side. She's very close with Meredith; they were best friends. They traveled around the world together. And when Meredith went to work at Seattle Grace, Sadie went to work at a morgue. I'm dying to know why she behaves so recklessly. Anyone who behaves like that has to have a lot of issues.
Q: For the record, is she bisexual or a lesbian?
Melissa George: She just takes anything - whatever walks in front of her. [Laughs] If it's a male, she'll go for it. If it's a female, she'll go for it. She doesn't think attraction should be [limited] by gender. I sort of look at people and go, "Wow, how do you live like that?" But she seems to get a thrill out of shocking people.
Q: Obvious question: Did Meredith Grey and Sadie "experiment" back in the day?
Melissa George: We don't know. But that's what's so intriguing: What happened between these two? It's brought up a lot [on the show], but we've never revealed what happened Q: But something happened.
Melissa George: I think so. There's a lot of [Mer-Sadie] dialogue like "Don't tell them what happened!" So, something did happen, but I'm not sure what. They obviously traveled together and were very close. Did they date? Did they not? Did something major happen to them that they swore they'd never discuss? It could be anything.
Q: How long are you committed to the show for?
Melissa George: I'm here for a while. I'm sort of playing it by ear. I'd love to stay as long as possible. I'm shooting my fourth one this week, and I don't think it's stopping.
Q: Conventional Grey's Anatomy wisdom has you gravitating toward one of Seattle Grace's other two bisexual docs, Callie or Erica. Do you know which one it'll be?
Melissa George: They haven't told me, and I've been asking them every day, "Which one am I going to be making out with?" Or not! It could be one of the guys. I just said yes to Grey's Anatomy, the greatest show on TV. I didn't say, "What do I have to do?" So I'm sort of looking around going, "Which one is going to be my girl or my guy?"
Q: Last season at this time, there were no bisexual characters on Grey's Anatomy. Now there are at least three. Is there something in the water at Seattle Grace?
Melissa George: I'm not sure. Maybe they're not getting the right victims coming through the door so they're bored. [Laughs] Bisexuality exists. It's common. I guess they're experimenting.
