We've been debating this week whether Izzie could be pregnant on Grey's Anatomy. We have our doubts, but according to EW's Michael Ausiello, there is another Izzie surprise in store for us soon. Meanwhile, Richard's stress apparently boils over tonight.
Here's what EW's spoiler Q&A reveals this morning ...
Q: Is Izzie really pregnant on Grey’s Anatomy?
A: I'll say this: ABC's promo gurus are very sneaky! While we’re on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm that she’s taking another leave of absence from Grey’s Anatomy this season - but this time her reasons are personal and not professional.
Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some QT with new adopted daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie will be MIA for another string of episodes (most likely in early 2010).
What do you think prompts Izzie's second departure from SGH?
Q: Please tell me something will happen soon on Grey’s Anatomy that will make me stop hating the Chief! I used to love him but this season has been terrible!
A: Would the sight of him falling off the wagon do the trick? 'Cause that’s what happens at the end of this week’s episode, "New History."

we saw new mom Ellen Pompeo back at Grey’s Anatomy. The show is moving Derek and Meredith back where they belong: front and center. That’s the good news.
Here comes the bad, according to EW: “They will face relationship challenges, many of them work-oriented, in the second half of the season,” reveals creator Shonda Rhimes.
Rhimes insists, though, that this latest obstacle will not result in the newly married-via-Post-It pair breaking up - a rumor that has been making the rounds on the Internet.
Derek and Meredith aren't breaking up ... but there'll be bumps along the way.
“I don’t know how many times can say, ‘Derek and Meredith are together forever’ and have anybody hear it,” the executive producer says. “I can only reassure so much."
“In order to [produce] a drama you need to have some drama,” Rhimes adds.
“Whether or not two people are meant for one another and will remain together doesn’t mean that things aren’t going to happen to challenge their relationship.”

Okay, seriously. How long are these pesky Mercy West doctors sticking around? Can they be called cast members? What's the deal with cardio-goddess Teddy - and Owenstina?
These are the questions of the day pertaining to our favorite show in E! Online's spoiler chat. Let's get down to the spoilers/news tidbits, then you can weigh in with comments!
Q: I hate the new Mercy Westers. Please tell me they leave Grey's Anatomy soon.
A: We can confirm that Nora Zehetner is still on the show as we speak, and we're pretty sure the rest of the gang will be hanging around for a while as well. Sorry.
Q: Please don't tell me Kim Raver is sticking around long on Grey's Anatomy!
A: She's not going anywhere for the time being, and according to Kevin McKidd (Owen), that is a very good thing! "When we heard the pitch of this idea for the storyline this year," Kevin says, "I think Sandra and I were kind of initially like, 'This is bad.'"
"I think we felt this is a good thing with these two and there could have been more story lines to tell. But you know, I met Kim and we started to work and what seemed to be coming clear very quickly is that we three actors have great respect for each other.
"At the end of the day, that adds a really interesting dynamic to the triangle as it is played out on the screen because all three of us actors have great respect for each other."
Q: What's going to happen with Owen, Cristina and Teddy on Grey's Anatomy?
A: More from Mr. McKidd on that topic: "It's not going to be some petty, juvenile, immature thing. Things are going to be interesting and intense. It's going to get much hotter and complicated between the three of them because it is such an adult problem that they have."
"People are hopefully going to be very, very torn when it comes down to it, and very involved and kind of sucked in. I think it's a very interesting story we're telling."

Below are some notes on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice from TV Guide's spoiler Q&A today. Nothing really new or ground-breaking, but still interesting developments ...
Q: How long before Teddy destroys Cristina and Owen's relationship on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Kevin McKidd says that Thursday's episode will have a major development in that love triangle: "Something happens between the three of them that's pretty explosive," he says.
"Up until now you've not really seen anyone draw lines in the sand, but you start to see that this week." Translation: "Desert Storm Barbie" is not welcome in Yang's Dream House.
Q: Any scoop on Private Practice?
A: Addison's mom and dad (JoBeth Williams and Stephen Collins) are coming to visit Private Practice on December 3, and they're bringing a third ... the other woman!

What's the latest on Cristina and Owen as we endure a month-long hiatus from the show we love? Let's turn it over to E! Online's spoiler Q&A this morning ...
Q: Please tell me there is hope for Owen and Cristina on Grey's Anatomy! I love them, and all this stuff with Teddy (Kim Raver) is giving me a coronary.
A: You are so not alone! But the good news is that I'm assured by a source that we have not seen the last of Cristina and Owen happy and together.
Word is there are many big fans among the Grey's Anatomy writers of these two, and Shonda Rhimes herself just tweeted: "I love Owen and Cristina too. A ton of Owen and Cristina stuff is coming up. In January. When we air again."

Here's a nightmare scenario for you if you ever have surgery, or even watch it on TV. Check out E! Online's teaser for an upcoming episode of Grey's Anatomy today ...
Q: Anything on Grey's Anatomy?
A: You know how there are often parallels between the storylines for Grey's Anatomy doctors and what their patients are going through?
Well, we're a little worried about an upcoming episode where it seems producers are taking a page from an old Nip/Tuck episode: The anesthesia doesn't work on a patient and she wakes up during her surgery and is conscious through terrible agonies of pain.

We don't know who Alex's one-night stand is on Grey's Anatomy, but we have a pretty good idea who it's not. Here's what TV Guide has to say about one recent rumor ...
Q: Some are saying that Meredith Grey is going to sleep with Alex Karev this spring on Grey's Anatomy. Please tell me it isn't true. I'm totally freaking out about this!
A: First off, we're not going to identify Alex's hookup, but we will help narrow down the list of candidates. You can take a deep breath, because everything will be fine.
Meredith and Derek's marriage by Post-It will not be torn asunder by Alex, and Callie's eyes won't be wandering back toward the men's side of the locker room either.
"Callie and Arizona get a little sexy soon," says Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona. "We see a little girl-on-girl action. America was asking for it and America got it

After taking a five-episode hiatus, Katherine Heigl will return to Grey's Anatomy for the show's January 21 episode. But will her on-screen husband be happy about it?
Izzie's absence has certainly affected Alex (Justin Chambers), who many believe may not be able to forgive his wife for walking out on him, according to TV Guide.
"Alex is just fed up," Chambers says.
"Alex is not built for all of this. He really meant what he said when he committed to her at their wedding and now he just feels it's all rushed too fast and he hasn't really necessarily thought everything through. He has so much emotional baggage anyway."
"Did he really do the right thing?" Justin Chambers wonders.
"Maybe he didn't. Does she really love him or does she love the idea of them? She's got so much to work out on her own, maybe they're not supposed to be together for a while, or ever."
Will they ultimately work through their differences? That remains to be seem, but things are going to get ugly when another woman is introduced.
According to insiders, a reeling Alex seeks solace at Joe's bar, where his inebriation, as it often does on the medical drama, sends him straight into a one-night stand.
"I was totally thrown off by it," Justin admits. "I think it's great though. It just adds a little spice to the show. The writers are really good at turning corners and taking your head for a little spin. It surprised me as much as it will the audience."
Any guesses as to who Alex's mystery woman is?
As for Heigl splitting time between the big and small screens in real life, Justin is more supportive. "Katherine is a movie star now," he says. "She's got such an exciting career going these days. I'm so happy for her. She's got to be a movie star."
Chambers says he personally has no plans to exit the show, and that given his personal situation, he'll stay at Seattle Grace as long as the producers will have him.
"This show is such a great springboard for all of us," he says. "I plan on having a career after this, but with my situation with my kids, this is the perfect job to have."
Justin and his wife Keisha have five (!) children - five big reasons why he's content working on one, L.A.-based show that doesn't involve too much travel.
"I love coming to work and I love the people I work with. On hiatus, I've taken advantage of a lot of free time with my family. I definitely like my job. I know what it's like to not know where you're going to work next and I don't want to go back to that."

Several other shows on ABC mess with time (Lost, FlashForward, Desperate Housewives) so it makes sense that it's finally Grey's Anatomy's turn in one form or another.
The 15th episode of the season will flashback to when Richard and Ellis Grey were doctors in their late 20s. The scenes will likely shed light on Richard's current demons.
As we know, the Chief has returned to hitting the bottle after many years of sobriety. We get the impression this will continue to be a problem when the show returns.
The series is currently casting actors who resemble James Pickens Jr. and Kate Burton to play the young doctors. What do you think, or hope, these scenes will reveal?

If the latest Grey's Anatomy rumor proves true, Meredith's ever-growing family tree could sprout yet another branch. A theory that Mercy West’s Dr. Jackson Avery is the Chief’s super-secret love child via Ellis Grey is gaining some traction as of late.
This twist is based largely on speculation spurred by reports of a casting call for a Young Chief and Young Ellis, who will appear in a flashback, and by the fact that Jackson was cast as bi-racial (as opposed to the show's typical blind casting style).
Does this rumor have any merit? Why not ask the man in question what he knows. Here's what Jesse Williams (Jackson) had to say about it in an interview with Fancast ...
Q: The big rumor making rounds is that Jackson will be revealed as Meredith’s half-brother.
Jesse Williams: I have heard that; I did not know that it had catapulted itself to a rumor. Ellen Pompeo and I have actually talked about this, because it would be really interesting and cool and dramatic. But I’d be very surprised if that happened, only because Meredith would have noticed if her mom was pregnant at some point in her [childhood].
Q: True. But Meredith does have a habit of acquiring relatives she does not get along with.
Jesse Williams: Exactly, exactly, so we’ve got that going for us already. [Laughs] But I don’t know how they would reconcile her never noticing her mom being pregnant. I simply don’t know! It could happen. It absolutely could happen.
Q: You’re also conspicuously absent from the new "Seattle Grace On Call" webisodes. That says to me that Ms. Shonda Rhimes has grander plans to keep you busy.
Jesse Williams: Oh I’ve been busy, I can certainly tell you that. I mean, I’ll find out tomorrow what’s happening next week. I don’t have a ton of information ahead of time, so I’m excited as anybody else to find out what the hell is going to happen next for me.
Q: Jackson also seems to walk around with a sense of entitlement – almost as if he knows he has some sort of “ace” up his sleeve.
Jesse Williams: You’re not the first it’s rubbed in a kind of “entitled” way. I think it’s more of a swagger. We’ve seen so many people [during the hospital merger] fall by the wayside for second-guessing themselves and hesitating. It’s a dog-eat-dog business, and if you hesitate for a minute someone will leap in and take your surgery and get an award for it. If Jackson acts like he doesn’t belong there, that will make him vulnerable. The Mercy Westers are still fish-out-of-water here, trying to find their legs and belong. We’re not on solid ground yet.
Q: Exactly. So the way I figure it, it will eventually boil down to Jackson saving his bacon by pleading, “Don’t fire me… Dad! I’m your long-lost son!”
Jesse Williams: I know! That would be really good. I should just blurt it out in a scene. I’m working tomorrow, so I just might do that and blurt it out!
Q: Rather ironically, it’s sounding like Joss Whedon’s super-secret Cabin in the Woods movie is something you can talk about more.
Jesse Williams: Yeah, that’s another thing that’s sort of semi-top secret. I’m one of the leads in that movie, which I’m very, very excited about. It was tough to hear that it’s going to be delayed so long [until January 2011], but it tested really well and they want to pour more money into it. They’re turning it 3-D, and that’s going to take a lot of time and effort, so they must really believe in it. I’m really proud of it. It’s really different.
Q: Hey, it’s Joss Whedon.
Jesse Williams: I know. Joss Whedon is the man, and [director] Drew [Goddard] is also an amazingly talented and hilarious writer. They were both amazing to work with, because they were so excited the whole time. There is blood, there’s gore, there’s murder, all types of s— happening, and they’re giggling like kids in a candy store. We were shooting that thing for like three-and-a-half months, but they kept it fresh. It was a lot of fun.

The new year is practically upon us and Grey's Anatomy gossip is heating up. What's the latest on MerDer, and "explosive" developments with Cristina and Owen?
Below are excerpts from a new column by Fancast's Matt Mitovich ...
Q: Now that Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo is finally back from maternity leave, are we going to see more Meredith and Derek interaction?
A: Yes, though perhaps not as much as Derek would like. See, Dr. Shepherd is still grappling with all the recent upheaval at Seattle Grace, but because of Meredith'ss ties to the Chief, McDreamy will need to bend someone else’s ear.
“Derek feels like he’s kind of in a vacuum, and he needs another set of eyes on the problem,” Kevin McKidd said. Those eyes belong to a certain redheaded war vet.
Previewing the gents’ bonding experience, McKidd says:
“Sometimes you need a new perspective, an outside view to determine if you’re on the right track or not, and Owen provides Derek that service in a way.”
Q: I will trade you a hot kiss under the mistletoe for some good Cristina-Owen spoilers. Not vague Grey's Anatomy spoilers, but good ones!
A: Due to overwhelming demand, I presented Kevin McKidd with rumors going around about something explosive awaiting the couple when Grey's Anatomy returns January 14.
The handsome actor confirmed that “in the next couple episodes there are some pretty explosive things that happen. Almost straight out of the gate, big things happen.”
I asked Kevin if these “things” were of a personal or professional nature.
He spilled, “It’s kind of both” before shutting down for fear of retribution from boss lady Shonda Rhimes. Now take note, Kevin was being vague, not me.

Below are excerpts from E! Online's spoiler Q&A this morning. Here's what Kristin Dos Santos has to say about Grey's Anatomy, specifically its newest cast regular ...
Q: Scoop! Now! On Grey's Anatomy please! Preferably Owen and Cristina?
A: How about Cristina and Teddy? Don't worry, they aren't resurrecting the foiled plan from years ago I hinted at that Cristina (Sandra Oh) would be bisexual, but it sure sounds like Teddy and Cristina will have lots of fun stuff coming up.
Kim Raver says that, "There's an interesting scene where Teddy drunkenly reveals things about Cristina to Owen, and that's really fun. It was so great that they had her drunk, and Teddy just goes on and on and on. It was interesting."
Q: Thanks for the scoop on Cristina and Owen in your Kim Raver story. I was surprised to hear you say that Kevin McKidd had dyed his hair. Is this for an upcoming storyline?
A: No. His hair is actually blond! Weird, right?! He seems such a natural redhead.

With all the focus on Cristina, Owen and Teddy (new cast member Kim Raver), what's the status on Grey's Anatomy's "signature" couple? We've been hearing so little!
While we would never forget about MerDer, Ellen Pompeo's recent maternity leave and plenty of other drama have put them on the back burner a bit. So what's next?
TV Guide has an interesting teaser in its spoiler Q&A segment today:
Q: Should I be worried about Mer and Der on Grey's Anatomy?
A: Rule No. 1 of marriage (Post It or otherwise): Never let slip something your spouse told you in confidence. Derek will learn that lesson the hard way when he blabs one of Meredith's secrets around the hospital. While Derek will definitely be in the doghouse, the secret's impact will be much more wide-ranging at Seattle Grace-Mercy West

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello has the latest on Grey's Anatomy in his spoiler column today. Here's what he has to say about Owen, Cristina, Teddy and Izzie ...
Q: What does Kim Raver’s promotion on Grey’s Anatomy mean for Owen and Cristina?
A: Drama! Despite the emotional smackdown Owen dealt her in the last episode, “From Teddy’s point of view, it’s not over,” Kim Raver said. “But what’s great about Teddy is she’s been in love with him when she was in Iraq and he was engaged and she never crossed that line."
"That’s who she is. Now he’s in love with Cristina, and Teddy has feelings toward Cristina by being her mentor. So that creates a lot of drama and comedy.” Moreover, an upcoming episode finds “Teddy giving Cristina this incredibly [difficult] surgery that she has to do on her own."
"What’s that about?”
Q: Now that Kim Raver is sticking around, when will we learn more about Teddy’s backstory? We know very little about her aside from her relationship with Owen.
A: There’s a scene coming up at Joe’s where Teddy gets plastered and spills her guts to Owen. “A lot is revealed in the bar to Owen,” teases the new cast member.
Q: When is Katherine Heigl returning to Grey’s Anatomy? I miss Izzie.
A: I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news: She’s back on January 21. The bad news?

Who is the infamous woman Alex hooks up with? Will we finally get some hot Calzona action? Here's the latest from Matt Mitovich of Fancast on both those Grey's topics ...
Q: Do you know with whom Alex is supposed to have a one-night stand?
A: Indeed, “a lot of people do the deed” during the January 14 Grey’s Anatomy / Private Practice crossover episodes, Shonda Rhimes says in the new TV Guide Magazine.
Although Alex is married and as such is not supposed to get it on with anybody but his Mrs., I do know the identity of his indiscretion, and she has an “e” in her first name.
My advice to Dr. Karev: Dude, you better sort through whatever issues you’ve got and soon, because your wife, Izzie, is going to be resurfacing at Seattle Grace January 21!
We love us some Calzona - and we doubt we're alone there!
Q: Can you help out some spoiler-hungry lesbians? We haven’t heard a peep regarding upcoming storylines and/or the next hurdle for Callie and Arizona on Grey’s Anatomy.
A: There’s a writers’ meeting going on right this second, so let me press my good ear against Ms. Rhimes’ door. Okay, I’m hearing fragments of conversation. “Callie battles” ... something ... “and Arizona is there by her side.” Hmm. Any theories yet?

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice return tomorrow night on ABC, and from the sneak previews and extended promo we've seen, there's little doubt Mark and Addison, well ...
Let's just say that it looks like old habits die hard for these two in the Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover event. You're either going to love it or be kind of creeped out.
While much of the focus on the Mark-Addison relations has centered on what that means for Mark and Lexie, has anyone thought to consider how it might impact Sam Bennett?
According to TV Guide, Sam's "jealousy will turn to regret, as he kicks himself for turning down Addison's previous overture." Wow. Maybe they're not ready to be just friends!
You missed your chance, Sam!
The Grey's rumor mill is also active with reports of Callie being sick. Eeek!
For the record: Callie is not dying. She just has chicken pox and will be nursed quickly back to health ... by Arizona! Not the hot Calzona action we hoped for, but still cute!
Elsewhere on the health front, though, the news is not so open-and-shut. A rumor that Owen's terrible post-traumatic stress disorder will flare up again is no laughing matter.
"We haven't seen much of it yet, but that doesn't go away," Kevin McKidd says. "My hope is we see him be able to deal with it in a more self-sufficient, non-destructive way."
He adds: "I think Teddy coming back churns up a lot of that stuff."

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice spoilers don't always intertwine, but tonight, when the characters from both are on screen (and hooking up) with each other, they do!
Below are a couple of excerpts from EW's spoiler Q&A this morning.
We suggest if you are looking to keep the events of this evening a surprise, particularly involving the romantic dalliances of Dr. McSteamy, you not read past the picture ...
The last such moment we may see for awhile.
•Things will heat up between Sam and Addison on Private Practice. Starting this evening, when he gets jealous of Mark, and again in February. •Their guilty consciences will prove a major obstacle, however, as will the added complication involving another doctor waiting in the wings! •Mark and Lexie are over. Done. The lovers will break things off this week, but their single status doesn’t really become official 'til next week. •That's when word of their respective dalliances comes to light. Interestingly, someone’s reportedly not as upset by this as you might think. •Katherine Heigl returns to the set in late February, so Izzie should likely be back on a regular basis in episodes airing in March or April.
