DAVID COOK TO HIT THE TRACK FOR A GOOD CAUSE
"American Idol" champ David Cook is gearing up to take a run to benefit a charity close to his heart. People.com reports that David will take a break from his tour to serve as grand marshal and run in the Race for Hope 5K in Washington D.C. on May 3 -- and his efforts will benefit brain cancer research. The 26-year-old singer's brother, Adam, has been battling brain cancer for more than ten years, says the Web site. David will run in the race as part of a team that has already raised $40,000 for the cause. "He wants nothing from us at all," the race's co-chair Jeff Kolodin told People.com. "This transcends fame and money and everything else. He just wants to help the cause." David will reportedly catch a 3 a.m. flight to D.C., following his May 2 show in West Palm Beach, Fla. -- and then he will hit the road on the next stop of his tour soon after the race. "The opportunity to become involved in such a worthwhile cause is paramount for me and my family. I don't run normally, but it seems a small sacrifice compared to what those who have fought cancer have endured," Cook tells People.com. "And the fact that my fans have rallied to raise so much in donations is the biggest compliment." You can learn more about the race by visiting curebraintumors.org.
from Entertainment Tonight ---------- as of this morning David's team has raised over 60 thousand dollars. Congratulations. Best of luck to David, wish I could run this one.

David and princess Ka-ChingFile this one under "money buys anything."A pair of hours before Sunfest headliner David Cook's concert Saturday night, event officials received a strange call. From the Fountainebleau Resort in Miami Beach, someone claiming to work for Princess Majeedah Bolkiah, daughter of the Sultan of Brunei, told them the princess suddenly decided she wanted to meet Cook, her favorite American Idol winner. Please, make it happen, the caller said. We'll make it worth your while. After checking into the lady's identity, Sunfesters made it happen. Why? Sources tell me Princess Majeedah was so appreciative she donated a check to Sunfest. Word is $25,000 was written on it, although Sunfest marketing princess Melissa Sullivan wouldn't talk about the amount. Still, since the princess is the daughter of one of the richest men in the world, a billionaire 20 times over, is it really that much? "She made a nice donation but we're not discussing how much. She didn't give us permission to discuss that," Sullivan said. "They (Majeedah plus entourage) drove up from Miami Beach and she got to meet David before his show. She even gave him a David Yurman bracelet." Ever the gentleman, Cook also has Princess Majeedah air-guitaring on stage for a set. Like I said, money buys anything! i39.tinypic.com/2hnvu4m.jpg[/img
