J.K. Rowling has written a 'Harry Potter' prequel. The work - which is only 800 words long and appears hand-written on a piece of cream coloured A5 card - is one of a series of 13 cards sent to authors and illustrators by Waterstones Booksellers for their 'What's Your Story?' charity auction. Other people taking part in the project include Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing, playwright Tom Stoppard and novelist Margaret Atwood - who is to fill out her card remotely using a robotic arm controlled by computer linkup. Proceeds from the 'What's Your Story? auction - which will take place at Waterstones in London on June 10 - will go to the writers' association English PEN and the Dyslexia Action charity. Copies of the cards will be collated into a book available in August. Rowling and her fictional wizard have also created fresh controversy in the US state of Missouri. Librarian Deborah L. Smith is suing her former employers at the Poplar Bluff Library because she refused to take part in a night to promote 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'. Smith, a member of the Southern Baptist church, claimed the night "violated her sincerely held religious beliefs against the worship of the occult and the promotion of such worship". Rowling has previously ruled out writing another full-length novel in the 'Harry Potter' series.

More details on JK Rowling's Potter PrequelFirst, Jo updated her official website this morning with news that the plot takes place 3 years before Harry is born. She also revealed her intentions in writing it: Although I did feel a bit like a relapsing addict as I sat down to write - the words poured from my pen with frightening ease - I am NOT working on a prequel. Indeed, I've written that clearly at the bottom of the card itself. I just thought that this was the best way to make money for two extremely worthwhile charities. Second, an article by The Guardian reveals that the story will include a plot around the Marauders - specifically James and Sirius.

Waterstones thrilled about Prequel, pic of final lineWe have spoken with Waterstones this morning about JK Rowling's recently announced 800-word Potter prequel, and we hope to have answered more of your burning questions! - As of today, Waterstones is now accepting preorders for the book at this link. The books will be a one off print run and limited to two per customer because of expected demand. They hope the book will be available in early August. - Jo's story will be available for viewing online on June 11th. You'll also be able to view it in their store windows the same day (Waterstones is a UK bookstore chain). - A representative tells us that the prequel was a "complete surprise". They simply asked authors to tell a story and awaited their response. Their official press release, with a quote from Waterstones can be viewed here. - Lastly, Waterstones has provided us with the final line on JK Rowling's story card. It reads: "From the prequel I am not working on – but that was fun!" (BELOW) Source: Mugglenet.
