Moonlight: TNT Said to Be Interested as Fans Plan to GatherThe fan site Moonlight United is reporting that, according to one of their sources, the Time Warner-owned TNT cable network is "definitely interested" in picking up the vampire detective drama, which CBS canceled last month. No confirmation or details of any negotiations have yet arisen; I'm working on trying to find out more, but network talks and rumors are equally difficult to track down. The concerted fan effort to leverage the history of fairly regular eight million viewers on CBS and a People's Choice Award (for Best New Drama) may be attracting some attention. As TNT is a new prospect, the campaign is focusing on getting fans to contact TNT directly (instructions here). Although Sci Fi, owned by NBC Universal, seems a less likely suitor due to its stated intention of pursuing its own shows, fans haven't given up on that possibility either, or on a co-sponsorship proposal to DirecTV. A plan to hold early-afternoon regional events in various places across the country on Saturday, June 14, is still on. Locales for the rallies and picnics include New York's Central Park, Chavez Park in San Francisco, Griffith Park in Los Angeles, Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Orlando, Dallas, Southfield, Michigan, and Portland, Oregon, with other events still in the planning stages. This grassroots effort on the part of lots of individual, committed fans to fight for their show against long odds and corporate indifference is certainly the most ambitious since the campaign to revive Jericho. CBS president Nina Tassler blamed the cancellation on ratings (despite professing to personally love the show herself). CBS sources said in mid-May that the network chose not to pick up the series because it was failing to hold its Ghost Whisperer lead-in and its ratings had declined in the weeks after the writers' strike. Since the cancellation, though, fans have argued that the real problem was that CBS wanted to change the tone and perhaps even the format of the show, to make it a better fit with the network's renewed emphasis (demonstrated in its announced fall 2008 line-up) on its roots in crime procedurals and comedies, which CBS says draws heavy contingents of female viewers. (Matt Roush did an in-depth look at CBS's clumsiness in thinking outside its usual parameters, leading to a decision to concentrate on what it does best.) The most commonly heard comment is that CBS wanted to turn the show into CSI: Moonlight – in other words, recalibrate the show to place heavier emphasis on Mick's P.I. work and less on the supernatural angle. Alex O'Loughlin's thank-you and farewell to the fans certainly suggests that there was constant pressure to redirect the show in various ways before and during its run (perhaps this explains the relatively awkward crime drama/Hollywood glamor elements of "Click," one of the four post-writers' strike episodes). Changing the tone of Moonlight more toward Mick's P.I. work would put it more in line with CBS's other supernatural property, Ghost Whisperer, which emphasizes Melinda's cases over her abilities (a format also followed on NBC's Medium). Sure, crime dramas bring in female viewers. How they can ignore the female following for Moonlight and its star, O'Loughlin (who scored "Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy" in a TV Guide poll), though, is beyond me. Nonetheless I'm starting to wonder whether this was the "real reason" the show was canceled: CBS was just constantly perplexed by a private detective show that wasn't really about solving crimes and catching criminals. 'Moonlight' Fans Gather in Daylight Friday, June 13, 2008
Still part of their incessant quest to bring Moonlight back to life, fans of the canceled CBS vampire detective series have decided to gather outside the Schenley Park visitor center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania tomorrow at 12pm to 4pm.
Moonlight, the series that follows private investigator, Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) as he struggles in the present day with his love for a mortal woman Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), has rapidly increased its fan base over the course of its first few episodes. By the 12th episode of the series, fans have fortified their support for the show by making use of the hiatus, brought about by the writers' strike, to creatively come up with a blood drive, which is an initiative to give the series a bloody welcome when it returns with four new episodes and to show their dedication to the freshman series, and importantly to request that CBS renew Moonlight for a second season.
Unfortunately, all efforts have failed so far as CBS decided to put a stake on the show. While CBS remains firm on their decision to officially end Moonlight's chances at a new season, other networks have not yet landed their verdict.
As reported previously, fans are targeting the Sci Fi channel as the new home of Moonlight, which also stars Shannyn Sossamon and Jason Dohring. Because of this, the campaign to get the show renewed has moved away from CBS and thus explains the location of tomorrow's assembly.
"We didn't want to be that obvious," local fan Dorothy Jadlowiec told post-gazette.com of the notion of rallying in front of KDKA, a CBS owned station in Pittsburgh.
"Come help us support Moonlight," she added. "There will be donuts, cold drinks and lots of people who love a certain, sexy vampire, his lovely lady and his snarky but lovable friend!"

Just found this on Moonlight Dective: A Word from Jason, a Word from Alex, and Rally Reports.
Jason Dohring (Josef) appeared at Breakout: Beyond in London this past weekend. Although it was a Veronica Mars-themed convention, he was asked about Moonlight and said that he knew the show wasn't officially dead and he was aware of the talks with TNT.
In addition, Alex O'Loughlin responded to a fan's MySpace message of support with the following:
Dear Alyssa
Thanks for everything your doing. I'm so proud of our little show and hate to watch it die. The support you guys have given me and the rest of the cast has been overwhelming.
Warmest Regards Alex XOXO
I'm glad to hear that they are aware of our efforts to save the show. And it looks like TNT isn't just another rumor.
TNT it IS

MORE NEWS!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- DirecTV wants to know your answer to the attached poll. You must be a registered user to participate. I'll be sending them the link to this thread so they can monitor the numbers in real time. Thanks, everyone! Lees CLICK HERE! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Rumor: DirecTV looking at adopting Moonlight By Tim Surette Published: June 20, 2008 at 02:02:00 PM Could the vampire drama be saved by the same people who saved Friday Night Lights? There are hardcore fans, and there are hardcore fans. The guy with the Dwight Schrute bobblehead doll on his desk? He's kind of hardcore. Moonlight fans? They're really hardcore. Moonlight fans are attempting to pull a Jericho with the recently canceled vampire drama, making it undead. They've put the line out there in attempts to hook a new network or television provider for Moonlight, and it looks like they may have at least a nibble. According to Moonlight fan site Moonlight Line, which is attempting to resurrect the show, DirecTV has inquired about possibly picking up the program. Though DirecTV may seem like an odd choice--basic-cablers such as Sci Fi Channel seemed possible destinations--the satellite service has already acted as life preserver for another well-loved drama treading water. In April, it was officially announced that DirecTV had reached a deal with NBC to keep Friday Night Lights on the air. The unique arrangement would see DirecTV have first-airing rights, with NBC rebroadcasting the show four months later. It's unclear what DirecTV has plotted for Moonlight, but the company is apparently interested in at least considering something. According to one of the board's higher-ups, DirecTV asked the site to post a poll asking what members thought of DirecTV sponsoring the show. The poll is up with the following three answers: "No problem, I already have DirecTV," "I'll switch to DirecTV in a hot second," and "Not switching." The results of the simple market research would then be looked over by DirecTV who would determine if any of this makes financial sense. As of press time, 21 percent said they already have DirecTV, 71 percent said they would switch, and seven percent said they wouldn't switch. This is great news for Moonlight fans, but probably best to hold off on hosting a bloodsucking party until something official comes out. TV.com Article here!wooo!
