X-Files' Mitch Pileggi Gramps it Up for SupernaturalOct. 1, 2008 It's the hour that might drop the collective jaw of Supernatural fans who think they have the CW series' mythology all figured out. "In the Beginning," airing this Thursday at 9 pm/ET, guest-stars Mitch Pileggi as Samuel Campbell, the Winchester boys' maternal grandfather. The Back to the Future-esque tale finds Dean face-to-face with not only Gramps but also his would-be parents, as light is shed on the dark truth about That Night. TVGuide.com invited Pileggi to preview his visit, reflect on his least-appreciated TV role, and ponder the prospects for X-Files 3. — Matt Mitovich TVGuide.com: How did the Supernatural opportunity come to you? Was it a case of someone knowing someone who knows you...?Mitch Pileggi: I had worked with [Supernatural creator] Eric Kripke on another series (Tarzan) some years ago. He told me he had been looking for something for me to do on the show, but he wanted to wait for the right role. This came up, they called me, and there was no hesitation. TVGuide.com: You often seem drawn to anthology-type series. Do you feel it's a smarter, more involved genre of television?Pileggi: This show is definitely smart. but honestly, what draws me to any show that I do, these days especially, is if the role is something that is going to challenge me, that is interesting to me, and is something I haven't played before. The main thing that drew me to this was the fact that the people working on it, from the crew and production, are people I worked with on The X-Files. I had a lot of "old family" working on the show. When they sent me a couple episodes, I actually called Eric and said, "Why have I not been watching this show?!" I think it's really good, and the guys on it are wonderful. It's a great cast, great stories, and it looks absolutely wonderful. TVGuide.com: You and Jensen Ackles have a very tense face-off at one point. Is that a scene you rehearsed and he knew exactly what you would be throwing at him, or was there some element of surprise to your performance?Pileggi: He had no idea what I was going to be doing until I did it. It was... fun, man. [Laughs] To be quite honest, I didn't know what I was going to be doing. It kind of just "happened." Usually when I don't know what I'm doing is when I'm the happiest with it. TVGuide.com: Amy Gumenick, who plays your "daughter," Mary — this was her first big acting job? I thought she was pretty darn good, and had great screen presence.Pileggi: She was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I had a good time working with her. It turns out she went to school and was taught by a very good friend of mine, Sage Parker, who is Mary-Louise Parker's sister. Source

Exclusive: Super New Supernatural PhotosOct. 8, 2008by Matt MitovichAs oft requested/demanded via the Mega Buzz emailbox, the CW has come forth with fresh and oh-so-pretty Season 4 gallery pics of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. And because TVGuide.com's SPN fans are among the most avid, we've secured an exclusive first look at three of them. For starters, we have Jensen, doing that 1,000-yard stare y'all love so much. Next there is Jared, striking the pose that made J.C. famous — ironic, since Dean apparently is The Big Guy's Chosen One. Lastly, we have the brothers, together. Source

'Supernatural' Exclusive: Meet Sam and Dean's Worst NightmareOct. 20, 2008 by Michael AusielloEvil has a new face on Supernatural, and it looks something like the dude to the left. Okay, it is the dude to the left. Character actor Mark Rolston (Aliens, Cold Case, Profiler, etc.) has been cast in the recurring role of Alastair, the latest demon hell-bent on terrorizing the Brothers Winchester. His first airdate is Nov. 13. The original breakdown for Alastair described him as a "calm and composed demon with a placid smile that belies his simmering sadism and evil. He's one of the top demons in Hell. He's electrifyingly powerful." In other words, he's scarier than Lilith, right? Not necessarily, says a Supe source. "He knows Lilith from Hell, but it's unclear exactly which of them is the big Big Bad -- or if it's even one of them," whispers my snitch. "There are a lot of new mythological elements and characters coming into play this season." My guess? The dude outranks Lilith. You agree? Disagree? And regardless of where he fits into Hell's hierarchy, you have to admit this is a pretty cool piece of casting. Source

Supernatural Sex Talk: Is Sam "Doing It" with a Demon?Oct. 16, 2008 Supernatural fans want to know: Did Sam hook up with his demon helper, Ruby? While series creator Eric Kripke thus far is mum on the subject, Jared Padalecki is willing to offer his own (albeit unconfirmed) opinion on the possibly sticky sitch. Padalecki theorizes that the unlikely associates "have been lovers," noting that "from the first episode this season, when Dean returns and Ruby (now played by Genevieve Cortese) is in her underwear and Sam is coming out of the bathroom, it's hinted that Sam and Ruby have a bit more going on than, 'Hey, let's study how to kill demons.'" Padalecki, however, stops short of suggesting that any hook-up (if one happened) means anything. "Maybe she's just being nice to Sammy," he says, "since he thought he lost his brother." Hey, at least one of these hunky hunters might be — might be, we say — getting his due. Source

Exclusive Supernatural Video: Jensen Eyes a "Tiger"Oct. 22, 2008 This, you're gonna love. But first, here's how it all went down. At one point during this week's episode of the CW's Supernatural, "Yellow Fever," Dean is waiting for Sam in the Impala. As Sam approaches, he discovers his bro reclined in the front seat with his eyes closed, air-drumming and lip-synching to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." Jared Padalecki's cue to costar Jensen Ackles was to tap on the roof of the car, interrupting Dean's jam session. But for one take, Jared had this thought: What if I didn't give the cue? What would Jensen do? This video answers that question. Or at least starts to. While this sneak peek will more than entertain you, be prepared to get the entire 90-second version — featuring even more impromptu behavior — as a coda to this week's episode. Supernatural airs Thursdays at 9 pm/ET, on the CW. Watch it here. Source

Supernatural Preview: Robert Wisdom's One Devil of an AngelOct 30, 2008by Matt MitovichA witch. Halloween. The possible unleashing of Satan. Sounds like a case for the Winchester boys and their winged wingman. Tonight on Supernatural (9 pm/ET, the CW), even Castiel agrees that heavy artillery is called for. Cue guest-star Robert Wisdom, as an angel with 'tude. The former Wire star shared a look at this hellish holiday outing. Plus: His take on "the greatest show that's ever been on American television." TVGuide.com: I'm guessing — purely guessing — that this is the first angel you've played.Robert Wisdom: [Laughs] Well, there aren't too many I've been offered, but this is the first one, yeah. TVGuide.com: What brings Uriel to the world of Supernatural? Is he there to ostensibly save Halloween?Wisdom: Yes, that's my job, and it's a big one. It's a real sweet role. They've written some really powerful stuff. I like the show. TVGuide.com: I'm thinking he doesn't get a big ol' hug from Castiel?Wisdom: No, we are kind of a mix between characters from the Addams Family realm and The Odd Couple. [Laughs] We like each other but we aren't real close. TVGuide.com: They have different approaches to the job, I understand.Wisdom: Uriel basically uses power to get the job done. If that means smiting a whole city, he has to do it. TVGuide.com: Misha Collins told me that Uriei is a bit "trigger-happy."Wisdom: I wouldn't say trigger-happy, but he's "eager" to carry out God's will. TVGuide.com: So, he's closer to Prison Break's Lechero than The Wire's Bunny.Wisdom: Oh, by far. By far. [Laughs] TVGuide.com: How did you like working with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki?Wisdom: They're both great guys, and they're funny as all get out. Jared is a cut-up, and Jensen is a real fine man. In this episode, we have quite a bit of work together. TVGuide.com: Is the door left open for your character to return ... or not so much?Wisdom: Angels can always come and go. It's a permeable wall between our worlds, so there's a possibility he could show up again. TVGuide.com: Was filming up there in Vancouver more comfortable than Prison Break's "Panama"?Wisdom: Autumn is a great time to be in Vancouver, and Dallas was... hot. We were seriously hot. We shot on this red clay set that just kept heat. We had a great time, but it was hellish. This was a lot more pleasant, for sure. TVGuide.com: All of your Prison Break scenes looked grueling, hot and/or odorous.Wisdom: Well, then we pulled it off! It's all done with a squeegee bottle and a lot of Vaseline. TVGuide.com: What will you most fondly remember about The Wire?Wisdom: Oh, my god.... I have to say, I've loved all the jobs and everybody I've worked with, but that's one of a kind, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can get it on a film [set], but on a TV series...? TVGuide.com: What do you think the show's legacy should be?Wisdom: From the feedback I get every day, it's the greatest show that's ever been on American television. Source

Misha Collins InterviewThree Questions With Supernatural’s Misha Collins Posted by Ian Spelling on 11/25 at 10:52 AM Misha Collins is having a hell of a good time on Supernatural. The actor plays Castiel, the angel who saved Dean Winchester from you know where, and he’s fast emerged as a fan favorite. And so Collins – an actor whose credits include Charmed, Girl, Interrupted, 24 (as Dennis Hopper’s assassin son), ER, CSI: NY and Over Her Dead Body – will appear in at least another half dozen episodes of Supernatural this season and just might stick around far longer than that. UGO recently caught up with Collins for an exclusive interview. Here’s what he had to say. UGO: So, your gig on Supernatural started out as a six-episode recurring character arc and now it looks like you’re going to on the show for the foreseeable future. How cool is that? Collins: It’s totally awesome. It’s kind of like a dream come true, really, because it’s so much better to come into a show like this that’s establish and, in my opinion, really good, than doing a pilot that might shoot six episodes of and you don’t know if it’s going to catch on. It’s so great to come into something that’s established and already has a fan base. It’s a great character. I have got nothing to complain about. I love Vancouver. I’m sort of pinching myself. It’s great. UGO: How are you enjoying working with Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Robert Wisdom, who plays Uriel to your Castiel? Collins: I can say in all honestly that this is probably the best television set I have ever worked on, which is amazing because it’s probably also the hardest-working set I’ve ever been on. They are working incredibly long hours and Jared and Jensen are shouldering virtually ever scene. So they work really hard, and they’re not doing season four eye rolls or yawning or spending the entire time off in a corner texting their girlfriends. They’re really there and they do their work, and they have senses of humor. They’re both actually really witty and sarcastic, which makes it so much more fun to work with them. And Robert Wisdom is an awesome guy. We had an incredibly long van ride back from the set one day, where the traffic was just horrible and we were in the van for about two and a half hours. We told each other our life stories and we found out that he had lived in Washington, D.C. and I lived in Washington, D.C. I had interned at the White House and he had interned at the Capitol. We both worked at National Public Radio headquarters in D.C., and we’re both now playing angels. We both practice similar kinds of meditation. So he’s a fascinating guy. UGO: We couldn’t help but notice that in last week’s episode, Uriel did all the heavy lifting in the fight scenes. When is Castiel going to kick some ass? Collins: I’m going to make an uneducated prediction and say by the end of this season there will be some ass-kicking. The show is going on a little break, but it should pick up after that. (In last week’s episode) I was a bit disappointed when we choreographed the fight scenes and I thought Castiel got cheated of his warrior qualities, but I’m sure that time will come. Source: UGO

Robert Singer - Executive Producer - IfMagazine InterviewWhat lies in store for the Winchester brothers for the remainder of Season 4? We get some cryptic hints SUPERNATURAL – the good verses evil fun and funny The CW show – took a different turn in its fourth season. No longer is it a single demon or bounty that the Winchester brothers are working on or trying to uncover, but instead we went a little more worldly. As in the end of the world, as the battle between Heaven and Hell became the focus of the show. While he was very reluctant to give anything away in terms of what we might be seeing in the mythology aspects of the show, executive producer and director Robert Singer spoke with iF Magazine about SUPERNATURAL and what the rest of the season may hold. Again, while he’s reserved, there are some nice little hints that should be enough to whet the appetites of fans of the show. iF Magazine: This season of SUPERNATURAL introduced the opposite side of the coin for the Winchester brothers with Heaven, God and angels all introduced in the first episode helping to bring back Dean from hell. Was that always the plan after the third season or was it something that came up later on?ROBERT SINGER: That was the plan we came up with and the end of last season. Getting an early pick up was helpful in that we could plan ahead early iF: How did the writer’s strike from last year affect your writing this year, if at all?
SINGER: The writers strike just made us accelerate the plans we had for last season. We got to show mythology quicker than we had intended. iF: I know you had to truncate the third season, so was there a few things you wanted to do last year that we are seeing this year or is it all pretty much a new, clean slate?
SINGER: A clean slate. iF: I love that the writers of SUPERNATURAL are willing to take chances with the episodes we are given and that they aren’t all having to deal with the mythology or the theme of the season. What’s the idea behind that, to give the audience a little more than just the same old week in and week out or to stretch the writer’s creativity or both?
SINGER: We like to mix it up. When we do stand-alones, we want it to feel like a small movie. That can be horror, comedy horror, or in some cases fantasy. We make a concerted effort that when we do a mythology episode that we really move the mythology along. That the audience gets some real movement, not just dribs and drabs. F: It seems SUPERNATURAL is a perfect outlet for these type of comedic or throwback episodes we see on occasion. Are there any future episodes this season that we can look forward to and what might the plotlines be?
SINGER: I think we are pretty much done with the broad comedy episodes for this year, although we try to infuse every episode with some level of comedic moments. iF: Speaking of which, I simply loved the “Monster Movie” episode, it did everything right, from being filmed in black and white, to the throwback direction, to the classic monster scenes in that episode. Whose idea was it to do an episode from an era gone by?
SINGER: It was [creator] Eric [Kripke] and Ben [Edlund's] idea. I was lucky enough to get to direct it. I'm glad you appreciated the homage images to the early films. iF: Heaven and Hell is a big theme this year with Lucifer trying to unlock the seals to bring hell on Earth. While the show has dealt with demons and monsters since its inception, idea of Heaven is new for the show. Was it just a nice fit for the show, or just time for it to come about or just opened up a slew of new possibilities for the show that wouldn’t have been there before?
SINGER: It seemed a logical progression, but Eric really conceptualized it. iF: We are pretty much in the dark as to why the angels and God lifted Dean from Hell, but they have hinted that he has some purpose … possibly other than stopping Lucifer from unlocking all of the seals to Hell. Are we going to find this out along the season, hopefully?
SINGER: You will get the answer to that question by season’s end, but not from me here and now. Sorry iF: Dean has never been much of a believer in a higher power yet after all he has been through still is resistant to accepting it … are we going to see this change as the season progresses?
SINGER: See answer above. iF: What can we look forward to for the remaining fourth season? Any surprises we should expect or interesting twists to look forward to?
SINGER: We have some big surprises coming up, but they are all mythology based. I appreciate the question, but you will have to stay tuned. iF: Do you feel like there’s only a finite amount of “supernatural” creatures left to explore on the show or do you still feel that concept is limitless?
SINGER: We used to worry about that, but this year we have seemed to hit a creative stride in which good original ideas have been flowing. So, short answer, no. iF: Are we going to see more development of Castiel and learn more about him and why he was the one chosen to bring Dean out of hell?
SINGER: You will definitely see more of Castiel. It's not so important why he was chosen, but more what his real mission is. Again, stay tuned. iF: Sam has come under heavy scrutiny from the angels and God himself wants him not to use his powers to expel demons … is the first of what we may see Sam turn evil? Now that’ll be fun to watch!
SINGER: Good question. Wish I could help you out there. iF: Will Ruby be responsible for any of these changes that Sam if he indeed goes through, goes through?
SINGER: Ruby has a definite part in what is to become of Sam. iF: Will we continue to see Sam clash with the angels over what he should be doing and not be doing?SINGER: Yes, this is very much part are storyline. Sorry for being less than forthcoming on some of your questions, but I don't want to spoil what we think are going to be some real surprises for our fans. Source: Ifmagazine.Com
