Anthony Edwards to George Clooney: "'ER' Wants You Back!"
Thursday, September 18, 2008
With ER coming to a close this next season, the show’s producers want as much as the original cast as they can get on board for a guest appearance. In fact, we recently reported that ER’s very own Anthony Edwards, who originally appeared in the show’s debut in 1994 as Dr. Mark Greene, will be re-appearing on the show, despite having his character killed off in the eighth season in 2002. He will be appearing in a flashback sequence in which he will help shed light on guest star Angela Bassett’s character, Dr. Cate Banfield.
Since the news spread about Edwards’ return, fans have been speculating that ER star George Clooney might also return to the series for its final season, which begins airing on September 25.
Recently, Anthony Edwards commented about how he, too, wants Clooney to be part of the NBC series’ final season.
“I think he’d be a fool not to [come back],” the 46-year-old Emmy Award-winning actor told Access Hollywood during a visit to the show’s set. Apparently he isn’t the only one who’s hoping for Clooney’s return as Dr. Doug Ross.
“I know they want to do everything they can to bring everybody back,” Edwards said of the show’s producers. “I got an e-mail from John Wells, our executive producer, saying, ‘Remember back when… it’s been 15 years since we started the show and we’re gonna try and make this last season something special.”
Edwards added that the producers created a “crazy idea” of how his Dr. Greene be pulled back into the show despite his death of brain tumor in previous seasons. Additionally, the producers opted to donate to Edwards’ charity, Shoe4Africa.org.
“I said rather than giving me money for this, help me with something that’s really important,” he explained. “I’m involved in building the largest children’s hospital in Africa — and we’re just starting out to raise $15 million to build a children’s hospital that will really be something special.”
“I’m happy to say my experience has been good, so I have nothing to warn anybody from doing it,” Edward admits. Fans hope that this is enough to bring George Clooney back to ER, which begins airing its 15th and final season on September 25 on NBC.
