Dexter - Clyde Phillips Interview with E!Online One of the writers for Dexter. Why the "happy" ending? We didn't want the ending to be the way it's been the first two years, where the audience was expecting that whatever the problem in Dexter's life would be dispatched in the last episode in some wonderful, high-energy resolution. We did that in the episode before the last episode. Then we allowed the audience to think, 'Oh my god! (A) What is going on, because this isn't the way Dexter is going to end, and (B) What the hell are they thinking of? What are they going to come up with?' So it was a conscious decision to kill Miguel Prado in the second-to-last episode. And the wedding does seem a fitting end to a season that was all about Dexter's quest for normalcy.Yes, it was about the normalcy, with the omen of the blood dripping, and the message that nothing is ever right in his world. So will next season be a sitcom called It's Dexter! with Rita, Dex, the kids, a laugh track? Or will the darkness return?[Laughs.] No, the darkness is always going to be there. It's his curse and his blessing, and it's our curse and our blessing. When do you start plotting out season four? Do you have a theme? We're going to reconvene the writers room in February...There's not so much a theme as there are obvious things we're going to have to deal with. Dexter's going to be a married man, he's going to be a father, he's going to be living with Rita and three kids. He's the most private person—television's only favorite serial killer will be living with a family. One of the biggest threads you left hanging is that Deb is looking into her father's affair. Will she find out Dexter's brother was the Ice Truck Killer? Those files are sitting on Deb's desk waiting for her to look at, and all I can say is that storyline will not be ignored next year. Any chance Jimmy Smits may come back? After all, we have seen Dex's brother and father after their deaths. Or is that door closed?I think it's more closed than open—we've had no discussions about that. You mentioning it is the first time I've ever heard those words. But I loved working with Jimmy. Now, confession time: I personally loved the finale and found it to be both a very fitting end to the season and genius in that it was the one thing that no one expected. It was artfully written, produced and acted out, and wholly satisfying to this die-hard fan. From where I'm sitting, Dexter's third season was the best thing anywhere on television this fall. Dexter - David Ramsey Interview Did you know how to play any musical instruments before you joined Dexter? That's funny that you say that because no, I didn't. There were 3 other guys there and they had guitars in their hands. I was clueless. I was the last guy and I told them that I hadn't touched a guitar since college...and they didn't mind. After they hired me, they gave me guitar lessons for the next 3 months. I had a guitar lesson 3 days a week for 3 months and it was great. When you got the role did you know that you would play Debra’s love interest?I didn't. I had just finished a film, Nailed and I came into the audition. I knew I was a guy that someone would be interested in but I didn't know who it would be with. I came in really relaxed and there was a connection in the room and it was great. How many episodes in are you guys when it comes to filming the new season?Right now we are working on the 5th episode of the 4th season. We got picked up for Season 5 too for those who don't know. All I can tell you about the character this season is that we get deeper and more involved with his character. Deb moves into Anton's apartment, that's all I can say. Regardless of what will actually go on, what would you like to see happen with your character and Debra?I would really like for Debra to find love and stick with it because she is such a troubled character. Anton is very zen in comparison to Debra who is always amped up like she drank 5 redbulls. So in that sense, I think they compliment each other. I think they are really good for each other. Tell me about your experience working on the political satire, Nailed. We shot it in South Carolina during the summer and it was fantastic. It should be out next summer. I had a lot of fun and I hope people enjoy it as well! What was it like working with director, David O. Russell? He was a lot of fun! He is genius. He knows what he wants, let's you explore, and keeps you on edge. I found him very exciting to work with and I would work with him in a heartbeat. Was there much research done for your role in Mother & Child, I know it has to do with adoption? There is a certain amount that I can bring to the role because I am married in real life and in the film, I am married to Kerry Wahington. I did draw on my own experience that my wife and I went through, which was a miscarriage. I did my own investigation on miscarriages after my wife experienced one and I didn't realize how common it is. I also felt a deeper connection with certain people in my family who went through the same experience. I have been touched on some level so I didn't do much research for this role. I can definitely connect with my character though. What was it like working with Kerry Washington? She was great! Rodrigo García directed the film and when I went into ADR, he told me that the work on the movie was fantastic. Then he said, "Don't let your wife see it." He said it was hot and everyone else in the room said, "hot!" They wouldn't let me see it but supposedly the love scene between Kerry and I in the film is something else. wow I didn't know Dexter and Deb were married in real life! They look cute together, still it's kinda weird, but good weird Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter Are MarriedUpdate: Jan. 9, 5:25pm: This afternoon, Jennifer hit up a gift lounge hosted by Access Hollywood at Sofitel L.A. and showed off her new ring. As you can see from the photo now posted below, the couple likes to keep things sweet and simple... Dexter and his sister have gotten hitched! But fear not, Dexter fans, the nuptials went down in real life, not on the hit Showtime series. (The show isn't that twisted.) Michael C. Hall's rep confirms to us that the Golden Globe-nominated actor eloped on New Year's Eve with Jennifer Carpenter, who plays Dexter's tough-talking sister Deb. "They were married outdoors in Big Sur, California," Craig Bankey tells us. Jennifer carried a bouquet of white roses with her grandfather's wedding band attached. And another reason to tune in to E!'s live Golden Globe coverage this Sunday: Michael, 37, and Jennifer, 29, who have been secretly dating for about a year and a half, will make their first public appearance together on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton. The series is up for multiple awards, including Best Actor in a Drama for Michael. Michael and Jennifer's real-life wedding comes about a month after his creeptastic alter ego, Dexter Morgan, walked down the aisle with longtime girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz) in the series' season-three finale. Dexter's cast and crew are currently on hiatus but will resume work on the upcoming fourth season early this year. Showtime has already picked up the show for two more 12-episode seasons.
