The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Shirley Manson Interview
Describes her character
“So she is a T 1001 terminator and she has embodied the skin and bones of Catherine Weaver who is a Scottish woman who is the CEO of a high tech company and we do not know what Catherine Weaver is up to but we get the sense that she’s not really up to it.”
This is her very first acting experience, how did it feel?
“I have to be honest. It was really scary and very, very challenging. I felt very uncomfortable for a couple of weeks because I really was outside my comfort zone and I was pretty overwhelmed. I didn’t realize there was going to be so many things to think about the same time as delivering your lines and I think that really caught me off guard. So it’s been a challenge, but it’s been incredibly exciting and real - really thrilling for me and I’ve absolutely loved the experience. So, I’m really glad that I pushed myself to do something that I was scared of. There was a moment when it felt so scary to go through an audition process I was really close to saying, you know what, I’m not going to do this. I’m just going to go back and play music and do what I’ve been doing for the last 20 years. But I pushed myself to do it and I’m really glad I did.”
What did she learn about herself
“I learned that I was stupider than I thought and I learned that I was a lot braver than I thought, so it was a good experience in that regard. It’s always good to be reminded of what you don’t know, but to also get to learn what you’re capable of and so it’s been an inspiring experience on all levels.”
Is a huge fan of Linda Hamilton
“I was a huge fan of the Terminator movies. I wanted to, like you know, obsessive fan, you know, I liked the script and so I was obsessed with the, with Linda Hamilton. I thought she was incredible, particularly in 2. I remember going to the cinema and watching her do these pull-ups in her cell and just thinking I want to do that. I want to be like her. I want to be strong and powerful like her and so I really connected with that character for whatever reason.”
