Dennis Quaid leaves Hollywood for Texas
Actor Dennis Quaid is kissing off Hollywood for the artsy, hipster hills of Austin Texas.
Quaid opened up about his twins’ medical nightmare and what he’s doing to prevent more mistakes from happening
Quaid broke news to “Extra,” revealing his plans to move his family from Los Angeles to his wife’s hometown of Austin, Texas.
The Houston native said, “The train is going down the tracks…We have a lot of family there and we have a really nice plot of land…We have 30 or 40 friends and family members within two miles of us…It’s kind of a no-brainer.”
Quaid, who was honored with the Galaxy Award at the star-studded Maui Film Festival, opened up to Extra about his infant twins’ medical nightmare and what he’s doing to prevent similar errors from happening again.
Plus, he revealed how his children keep him in shape and which of his movies is his favorite.
Last year, Quaid’s infant twins were victims of an accidental life threatening overdose of Heparin soon after their birth.
He declared, “They went through a medical catastrophe. Thank God it had a happy ending.” As for his now 7-month-old children who joined him in Maui, he said, “We took them [kids] to the kiddie pool for their first swim today. They loved it.”
Quaid told “Extra” that he has started a foundation to “minimize the impact of human error when it comes to medical errors.” He explained, “We would like to start by bar coding…With a bar code, she can scan the medicine and scan the bracelet of the patient. Scan her own tag and if there’s a mistake, it will come up.”
As for keeping in shape, the 54-year-old father admitted, “Right now, I’m lifting infants who are growing. That’s really a lot of exercise…”
With a career spanning 30 years and filming 60 movies, it’s difficult for Quaid to choose his best work.
He admitted, “I have several favorites…Breaking Away and The Right Stuff are definitely there and The Rookie and Parent Trap…Far From Heaven.”
