Hugh Laurie Experimented with Vicodin For His House Role[/size] March 11, 2008 Not that he’s been labeled a realistic Method actor before, but Hugh Laurie admits he attempted to get closer to the character he portrays on House — by experimenting with Vicodin, the strong painkiller to which Dr. Gregory House is addicted. “I wouldn’t recommend it — we have to be careful,” Laurie, 48, tells Britain’s Radio Times magazine, “But then again … if you’re not in pain it gives a floaty, pleasurable feeling.” Laurie, renown as a perfectionist, says he’s unhappy with his Golden Globe-winning performance of the grumpy medic — especially his American accent — and isn’t sure how much longer the series will continue. “I’m hugely surprised House survives. The odds are against you in this competitive business; wolves snap at your heels. It’s hard to say if I’m pleased with the show,” he says. “I don’t watch regularly. I avert my eyes when my children have it on. I hate seeing myself, but it’s even worse hearing my American accent … I had no idea I sound so retarded, a dull monotone, full of clunking mistakes.” Laurie says he hasn’t brought his family, who continue to live in London, to be with him in Los Angeles because of fears that this might hex the show’s run. “I have this vague feeling that the moment I’m comfortable with my place in the world there’ll be retribution,” he says. “That’s one reason I didn’t want my family to live here. The moment we put down roots the whole thing will be called off.” Laurie also says the pressures of filming House mean he’s “off the market” for cameos on other shows. And its success hasn’t lead to any offers from his native land either. “There’s a notion that I’ve sold out,” he says. “Sold out what exactly? There’s a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn’t be successful, and reneged on it.” –Caris Davis Source

“Sold out what exactly? There’s a peculiar British attitude that I took an oath I wouldn’t be successful, and reneged on it.” ;D ;D I really love Hugh Laurie !! Thanks for the article, I never thought he would be so scared about the future of the show. I mean it brings in about 14 to 17 million in Neilsen ratings plus a wide selection of hype. If there was a "safe" show on Fox, its gotta be American Idol and House

I found this article regarding the rest of season four, House and Cuddy getting it on and a few other tid bits from the show's executive producer.. read on! House, M.D.’ co-producer offers advice By Allie Shea
Katie Jacobs, executive producer of the popular FOX series “House M.D.,” shared tidbits about the show’s early days and offered advice about breaking into the TV business at a question-and-answer session at the James M. Stewart ’32 Theater yesterday. When the show was first pitched to FOX, the network was worried about the edginess of the show’s title character, Jacobs said. “They were scared of the [painkiller] pills” that House is addicted to, as well as “the curmudgeonly, miserly part” of his persona, she explained.
House’s character makes the series stand out in the crowded field of medical shows, Jacobs said. Though it was difficult to find an actor to fit the Sherlock Holmes aura, she praised the once-unknown Englishman Hugh Laurie as “the only answer” to the dilemma she faced.
When Laurie appeared for his audition, Jacobs said, he sported an umbrella instead of a cane and a button on his lapel with the word “sexy.”
Laurie can never wear the pin again, she said. “Now, his sex appeal is international,” she added.
When asked if Laurie is anything like his character, Jacobs replied that though Laurie is as sharp and funny as Dr. House, he is “a real gentleman, very British” and never says anything to offend — the polar opposite of his character.
Jacobs answered a range of questions from audience members, who tried to extract secrets about future episodes.
In response to a fan’s question about House’s mysterious past, Jacobs replied that in Season Five, “there will be a road trip with House and [fellow doctor] Wilson that will reach into House’s past.”
Regarding the hinted-at relationship between House and Cuddy, a hospital administrator, Jacobs said that fans can expect new developments. “You have to wait a little bit,” Jacobs told the audience. “But what would happen if they did end up in bed together one night? That’s kinda interesting,” she added.
Jacobs also spoke about how to begin a career in the TV industry. She told the students in the audience, “There’s always the question about how you get from where you are to Hollywood ... It’s a real clear path, believe it or not.”
The best way to become a producer or to enter any other part of the TV business is to work as an assistant, Jacobs said. Before she became a producer, Jacobs answered phones and worked her way up from there.
“I really do think it seems like a hard business to penetrate,” Jacobs acknowledged. “But there’s a great community of young people, so when you do answer phones as I did, people help you. ... You become friends with people who grow as you hope to grow in the business.”
Much of the conversation also centered on the recent Writers Guild strike, which halted production of the show after only 12 episodes had been filmed for the current season. Jacobs said the strike was a “failure of leadership” on the part of the guild’s negotiating committee, which “focused on how to hurt the networks instead of negotiating an agreement.”
The strike was “heartbreaking for new series just starting out,” as well as a blow to “House,” “which had just started to hit its stride” as it began its fourth season, she said.
“We will absolutely not be able to do what we were going to do with 24 episodes in 16,” Jacobs explained, referring to the original plans for Season Four. “But we will finish the story arcs we started,” she added. www.dailyprincetonian.com/2008/02/29/20316/

Oh that's such a difficult question Let me ponder. I am rewatching season 3 as we speak. Well, maybe you should know that I haven't seen the whole season 3 yet... But I just asked out of curiosity Because I like of course the whole team, but sometimes I really don't like Foreman, sometimes I really like him... Hehe, I'm a little bit irresolute.

He's one of those characters that you really like sometimes but then really wanna punch at others....I really love all the cast ( part. wilson and Cuddy). Cameron sometimes gets my patience, especially in season three but still I love her so much. I only wanted to compare because in season four there are new characters, one in particular, I don't like much, Number 13. Don't ask me why, I just don't like her. I wanted to see if it was the same as with Foreman but I don't think it is..Maybe she will get better as time goes by.. I am always optimistic unlike House I guess. ;D

I love House MD It is my favorite show after Prison Break. Till now I only watched it on german TV. I don't know which season it is. Yesterday we had the episode as House would abort the baby and Cuddy rescued it. In our german Prison Break board are a lot of House fans too and one of them make this gif. I like it very much, it is so funny made by Crema Do you know that vid... funny too ;D

Yeah, you're totally right. I also love Cameron, but I really don't like her behaviour from time to time... Wilson is great. I love the conversations between him and House. Sometimes funny, sometimes reproaches... Hehe, we'll see if I like "Number 13" I'll let you know when I watch the episode where is she... (but don't know when will be season 4 aired here, I guess it'll take a long time till they will air it... ) ;D Yeah, but I'd say that House is in some way a little bit optimistic, I think he just don't express that...
