"The Whole truth about Wentworth Miller""We don't mind sharing a prison cell with him, let alone escape with him (towards a joined future?). We felt closest to making this dream a reality when he visited Israel not too long ago, but for now we'll settle for waiting for the 4th season of Prison Break and for an interview where he reveals a few surprising things about himself. Wentworth realaxes loosens up". By Quack Jang Anne (sorry if I misspelled his name..)
"The show Prison Break raised a havoc in the United States, and here we've been waiting anxiously for the Writers' strike to end - so they could do us all a favor and finish writing the 3rd season. Now they're already working on the 4th. There's no doubt gorgeous Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) has a tremendous part in the show's dazzling success. How much he's like his character, what he likes most to watch on TV and what he likes best about women (if anything...)? It's a sure thing you wouldn't want to escape in the middle of this interview".
Question: Some girls are maybe getting to know who you are for the first time through this interview. Can you shortly introduce yourself and Prison Break?Answer: "I play Michael Scofield in the TV show Prison Break. Michael is a structural engineer, but when his brother get's wrongfully charged for killing the President's brother, he decides to commit a crime and get into the prison where his brother is locked in so he could help him escape. It's hard to believe how much the show has achieved success in the world. The fact that one show can raise this much empathy by so many different cultures gives me and the staff a lot of support".
Q: You've become an international star because of this show. What does success means to you?A: "Directors prefer working with actors who are known all over the world and not just in the United States. Now, that my name is known also in Israel, Australia, South Africa and more, it means a lot to me. It means I get more opportunities to be in new TV shows and movies".
Q: I've seen your work before you became a big star. There was that sweet character in "Dinotopia", the complex character in "The Human Stain", and the sad character in the "Ghost Whisperer". Which one of these characters is the most memorable in your opinion?A: "The Human Stain. That movie was a turning point in my career. My name was on the credit list next to big names like Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris. I've always looked up to them and it was a big honor for me to be in this movie with them".
Q: You must get a lot of scripts and offers to play in movies now. What would you like to do after Prison Break is over?A: "I believe you have to concetrate on one roll at a time. As long as the show and my character runs I give them first priority. In other words, I'm all in the show now. After Prison Break is over I think I'll do a movie that can touch people's hearts and inspire them. But even if I do another TV show I'll consider myself lucky".
Q: Let's talk about Prison Break. I heard there was a little drama going on before you got Michael Scofield's character.
A: " The production team was having trouble finding an appr :Wentlove:opriate actor for the character. The actors in my category finished the auditions and I was the last candidate for Michael's role. That was a week before the shooting was supposed to begin. I got the script on Friday and the audition was on Monday, so I didn't even have enough time to get nervous. All I knew was that I really understood Michael's character. Even before the audition I could see that Prison Break was a show that crosses the lines between reality and fiction, and that's the Michael I showed onstage. The day after they called to tell me I got the job and we started filming the Pilot a week after that. It all happened really fast and I think it was best for me".
Q: What scene do you remember the most?A: "The scene from the first season where Abruzzi cuts off Michael's toes. That scene was special for me for two reasons; One, that I got to do a really intense scene with a great actor (Peter Stormer), and the other, because it showed how far Michael was willing to go in order to save his brother. The scene reveals my character's dedication and strong will power and in a way implies the message we want to deliver to the audiece at a later point. We belong to FOX TV network and that's why we can't curse or say everything we want to on the show, but because most of the scenes take place in a prison and we want to provide maximun thrill to the viewers and surprise them in every episode, it was necessary to find a way to do so within a Public TV channel".
Q: I remember while watching this episode I thought to myself "wow, don't tell me they actually cut his toes off!" What do you think you would do if you were in Michael's situation? Would you go to prison like he did to save your brother?A: "I'm a person who cherishes his family a lot. I would sacrifice everything for my family, without a doubt".
Q: And what about your acting skills; your performance in Prison Break is absolutely amazing...A: "Thank you for the compliment. To tell you the truth, I know expressing your emotions is really important in the movie and TV industry but at first I was having trouble with that because I grew up in a conservative family. I think I got a little more comfortable acting only after 5 years of acting school in Los Angeles. That's where I learned how to relax in acting in front of the camera. It's completely different than acting onstage".
Q: When people see you now they immediately think of Michael's character. Are you afraid this character will "stick" to you and affect your future acting career?A: "When Prison Break started to succeed the viewers got confused between me and my character on the show. I guess it shows how focused they are on our acting and I'm grateful for that, but I also hope the viewers can see the actor in my who can change from part to part".
Q: You seem to believe your abilities as an actor. And speaking of beliefs, there's the expression you always use in Prison Break - "Have a little faith" - which makes me wonder - what do you believe in your private life?A: "I believe in god. I believe you should treat other people the same way you want to be treated and I believe if you aspire good and balanced life, you have to make it happen for yourself. If you let out positive energy - it will get back to you eventually. Life's too short to live in a negative attitude, isn't it?"
Q: How do the actors get along during the shoot? And also, we're curious - who are you closest to?A: "The show refers to serious issues and the story itself is intense. On the other hand, the shooting itself is a lot of fun. I think it's important to maintain a light atmosphere during the shoot when people get "murdered" in every episode. There's a need to create a certain balance. I get along great with all the staff, but I would say I'm closest to Sarah Wayne Callis (Sarah's character on the show) and Owen Krebeki (Kellerman's character). MY NOTE: sorry if I misspelled the names, guys...
Q: What do you do on the weekends, when you're not shooting? I heard you like to be alone.A: "Shooting a drama TV show takes up quite an effort. Considering my schedule which includes 14-17 hours of shoot every day, five days a week, it's no wonder I'm beat at the end of the week. I spend most of the time recharging my batteries, usually deep inside a chair. I try to relax as much as I can and I watch comedies like "The Simpsons" or "Family Guy".
Q: And what about movies - what's your favourite movie?A: "Carrie - a Stephen King novel I've seen many times and still fascinates me every time. What's so interesting about it is not just the fascinating ending, but it's the impressive process every character goes through. Whether the character's good or bad, every action in the film has something to do with the disaster that happens afterwards. Isn't it cool? it's a complicated story, but everything fits in perfectly".
Q: Even though you graduated an Ivy league University you chose an acting career. For 10 years you played small roles but you never gave up. What advice can you give people who have a dream but can't decide whether to take the conventional way?A: "No matter what people say, you can't lose hope in yourself. Every one should ask himself whether he truely gave himself a chance. If you don't believe in yourself, nobody is going to do that for you. It's better to find someone who can set an example and that you can learn from. You can't achieve anything in one day. You have to be patient, trust yourself and give the maximum effort in any chance that comes your way. I think that's the best approach towards realizing your dreams".
Q: And to a whole other subject - can I ask you what your preference in women is?A: "I like strong women, with a goal, proud and with a sense of humor. But in the end, it's the feminin side which melts my heart".
Q: You recently recieved the award "sexiest lips in Hollywood". That must have had something to do with all the attention you've been recieving from your female fans. Do you consider yourself sexy?A: "I have to thank my parents who gave me my looks. I can't deny my looks has helped me achieve my childhood dream - to be an actor. But it would be funny to think of myself as sexy. It feels weird when women tell me I'm sexy, but I guess I like to hear it because it's still a compliment".
Q: Let's talk about men instead of women... What aspirations do you have as a man? If the word "aspiration" is too pretentious, try to think of yourself in 10 years from now. What would your life look like?A: "I've always considered myself lucky and I'm grateful for the ones who believed in me since the beginning and who have helped me get to where I am now. I want to continue working with different producers and actors, learn and be inspired by them. The most important thing for me now is not to be over-confident and preserve the passion to move on. After all, life doesn't always work as planned".
