The reason i have made this NOW is because there is loads of New Moon news that is being posted around. About the fact Catherine Hardwicke will NOT be back to direct this film! And there is now rumours going around that Taylor Lautner will not be back as Jacob Black (Not fully confirmed). Rumours on this are still speculating and aparantly, Michael Copon will replace him. Rumors are swirling that Michael Copon, most noted for his work in One Tree Hill, is the new Jacob Black. According to his seemingly official Facebook page, his status update is “Michael is the older Jacob Black”. Now, this could easily be doctored, but I think it might just be true. He would be a good fit–he really does look like a bigger, older Taylor Lautner. Copon is 6′1″ and 26 years old, Lautner is 5′6″ and 16 years old. You do the math. Check him out below in his role in Scorpion King: Rise of the Warrior:
Source: www.newmoonmovie.org/2008/12/michael-copon-as-the-new-jacob-black/As for the new director. New rumours are that Chris Weitz will be the new one. But its not confirmed for sure yet.

^^ Like i said. I didn't realise that there are people who still haven't read New Moon and I'm there posting all this news on this film, i could be spoiling it for others. Plus, its not Twilight news so i shouldn't be posting it there lol So i thought it would be best to make this thread now, seen as there already in Post Production. And start filming beginning next year.
As for the 2010 date. Its what it says on IMDB. I know i posted something that says there releasing this film November 2009, but i can always change it. I personally, don't think they will be ready to release it in 2009, unless its a rush job. Which ill be pissed off if it is!

Word from Stephenie and letter from Chris Weitz. Hey guys, There's been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what's going on. First of all, like you, I'm sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I'm going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I'm looking forward to every movie she does in the future. And she didn't leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon. Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They've asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.) I'm excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon. Below is a letter from Chris to you. I think you'll get a glimpse in this note of how cool it's going to be having Chris as part of our community. One more thing, unrelated but fun: I finally got around to posting a few pictures from the premiere on the Twilight movie page. --Stephenie Source: www.stepheniemeyer.com/Letter from Chris

MTV announces New Moon release dateThe body's not even cold on the first "Twilight" movie, but producers have already hired a new director, Chris Weitz, for "New Moon" and slotted the release date for the sequel. The second movie based on the vampire series by Stephenie Meyer will hit theaters on November 20, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Perhaps they're superstitious, but that's almost exactly a year to the day after "Twilight" opened. "Same time, same place," said Richie Fay, the distribution head for Summit Entertainment. "If it's also the same gross, we'll be very pleased. Hopefully, we'll have even better results." "Twilight" opened with nearly $70 million on its first weekend, and while Summit was quick to promise a sequel just days into the movie's run, it also rapidly broke ties with the original film's director, Catherine Hardwicke. "American Pie" director Weitz — who was behind the controversial 2007 Nicole Kidman-starring adaptation of "The Golden Compass" — will have some stiff competition when "New Moon" opens next year. According to the Reporter, that pre-Thanksgiving weekend will also see the bows of the Guy Ritchie-directed "Sherlock Holmes" starring Robert Downey Jr., the animated flick "Planet 51" and a Three Stooges movie being directed by the Farrelly brothers. With a release date and director now officially set, Twilighters' attention will now turn to casting. While principals Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are committed to return for the sequel, much mystery surrounds Taylor Lautner and whether the young actor will reprise his role as the shape-shifting teen Jacob. There are strong indications that the studio is considering re-casting the role for "New Moon." Source: www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1601354/story.jhtml

'Twilight' Star Ashley Greene Is Excited About 'New Moon' Director Chris Weitz BEVERLY HILLS, California — After the enormous opening of "Twilight," it's hard to talk about "young Hollywood" without the film's actors coming to mind. So when the organization behind the Golden Globe Awards threw its annual celebration of tomorrow's stars Wednesday evening, it seemed fitting that Stephenie Meyer's squad would rock the party. MTV News already brought you our exclusive interview with Taylor Lautner, but we were also eager to get the latest "New Moon" scoop from the one and only Ashley Greene. "Now I can hear what you say, and then maybe respond intelligently," the 21-year-old beauty laughed, comparing the red carpet to the last time we saw her, at the "Twilight" premiere. Looking forward to the upcoming sequel, she said she was "very excited. Alice, [my] character, is a lot bigger and a lot heavier in the second one, so obviously I'm looking forward to that. And hopefully we'll go to Europe to film. "I want to drive the yellow Porsche, really bad — in Europe," she giggled, citing the "New Moon" moment she's most eager to film. "That's what I'm most excited about now. I keep saying I hope they let me drive it, because on the first 'Twilight' we wanted to do our own stunts, and they let us do everything we realistically could. So, I'm hoping if I learn how to drive stick-shift, they'll let me drive the Porsche." Greene also addressed the recent controversy surrounding Chris Weitz replacing Catherine Hardwicke as the series' director. "I'm sad to see Catherine go, but I think Chris is going to do a really great job," said the star. "I'm excited to work with him, because obviously he's worked with CGI before, and he's very familiar with it. It'll be good. We all knew [Catherine leaving] was a possibility, and I respect the fact that she said, 'Hey, I want more prep time. Maybe I wouldn't do the best job,' and that she gave someone else her place. That's what we do; that's our job. We work with different, great people every day." Greene also offered her support for Lautner, who is meeting with Weitz on Friday to determine whether or not the young star will continue playing Jacob Black. "I hope so," she said, bringing her hands together in prayer. "We all love Taylor. He's the best kid. He's so adorable and so good-hearted, and he's a good actor too. He did a great job, so I'm hoping to see him come back." Ever since Lautner landed the "Twilight" gig, claiming that he could play the character throughout Jacob's supernatural maturation, some have insisted he isn't physically appropriate, an argument that Greene doesn't understand. "Oh, neither am I! I mean, really?" laughed Greene, who dealt with a backlash herself after being cast as the 4-foot-10 Alice Cullen. "If that's the argument, then they should replace me. "I love him to death, and he'll grow; I know he's working out like crazy to try to bulk up," she said of Lautner. "I think there are a lot of people [in 'Twilight'] who don't necessarily physically fit their part. So I'm hoping we keep him." The actress — whose career has soared to the point that she wrapped one film this week and began another the very next day — added that she's eagerly waiting for the inch "New Moon" script by Melissa Rosenberg to arrive on her doorstep. "I haven't [read the script]. Apparently, it's under tight wraps," she grinned. "I'm sure Rob [Pattinson] has, but [not me]. No, I haven't gotten to see it yet." Greene said she doesn't agree with the argument that the "Twilight" films should be overseen by only female directors. "I don't, necessarily. Chris put out a statement that I thought was very sweet, talking about how excited he is about the books. He read them and spoke with Stephenie, and he definitely wants to do them justice," she explained. "Stephenie also released a statement saying she'd spoken with him. And with the two of them working together, because I'm sure Stephenie will be around a lot, I think he's going to do a great job. And like I said before, he did 'The Golden Compass,' so he's definitely familiar with the kind of film we're doing, as far as the technicality of the stunts and the CGI." Before entering the party, Ashley also cautioned that fans shouldn't be sad that "New Moon" would force her to chop off her beautiful hair, revealing that much of Alice's pixie hairdo is movie magic. "I cut it to here," she said, holding her hand at her shoulder. "You didn't know they wigged me? That's good; that means it looks good. They wigged me for the first one, and I joked, 'Maybe I should just cut my hair off for the second one.' And they said, 'No, we'd still have to wig you, and we'd kill you on top of it!' I'll probably chop it down to my shoulders again, which I hate doing, but for this I don't mind." Source: www.mtv.com/

'Twilight': Taylor Lautner may get to keep Jacob role According to sources around Hollywood, things may start looking very hairy for Taylor Lautner. The actor — not to mention legions of Twilight fans — has been desperate to learn whether Summit Entertainment will cast him once more as Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel New Moon. This week, Summit is expected to announce its decision for the next film based on Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful series of vampire romance novels. Kristen Stewart, 18, is set to return as Bella Swan, the beautiful human who falls for a softhearted bloodsucker. And Robert Pattinson, 22, has a lock on his job too; his turn as Edward Cullen, the hunky, soulful vampire, has made him an overnight superstar with young female moviegoers around the planet. But Lautner, 16, has a more uncertain future. That's because the character he was so perfectly cast to play in the first Twilight film — a slim, baby-faced teenager — will be greatly expanded in the sequel. And by greatly expanded, we mean into a hulking, snarling, seven-foot Lycan. ''Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon,'' says Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of both Twilight films. ''He's a foot taller and huge — and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role.'' Rosenberg is quick to add, however, that ''everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever.'' Lautner's certainly been doing everything in his mortal power to hang on to the part. Since Twilight, he's gained 19 pounds and is promising to pack on 10 more before shooting starts on New Moon this March. And judging from a widely reprinted red-carpet interview, he's not shy about letting Summit and New Moon's director, Chris Weitz (who joined the franchise last month after Twilight's director, Catherine Hardwicke, left over creative differences), know that he has the chops for the gig. ''My job for Twilight was to bring Twilight Jacob to life — the friendly, happy-go-lucky little Jacob,'' he told MTV News. ''My job for New Moon is completely different. I've been looking forward to that. I've been getting ready for it, and I can assure them I will follow through with that.'' Fans of the Twilight novels — specifically those who identify themselves as ''Team Jacob'' — are divided over whether Lautner has the machismo to carry New Moon. In fact, pro-Lautner/anti-Lautner fights have been breaking out on the Web for weeks. As screenwriter Rosenberg puts it, ''He has to play a romantic lead against Rob, who's a 22-year-old man. That's a tall order.'' Summit declined to comment on the specifics of this story, but Twilight has so far grossed $263 million worldwide, and usually when a studio hits franchise pay dirt it tries to keep all the parts in place. Yes, there are exceptions. Just this past October, Marvel announced it was replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2. Nick Stahl took over for Edward Furlong as John Connor in Terminator 3, while Jake Gyllenhaal very nearly stole Spider-Man 2 out from under Tobey Maguire. Recently, there have been rumors that Michael Copon (The Scorpion King 2) and Steven Strait (10,000 BC) are jockeying for Lautner's spot. But you can chalk that up to empty Web noise: Reps for both actors say neither has been approached for the role. In fact, in what may shape up to be a triumph of the underdog, sources close to the production say that the simplest route would be to go with Lautner. EW has confirmed that the actor has not only met with director Weitz, but was even screen-tested for chemistry with Kristen Stewart. ''I'm very hopeful,'' a New Moon insider says of Lautner. ''We're not looking at anybody else.'' The irony, it turns out, is that Summit went to an awful lot of trouble to find Lautner in the first place. In late 2007, the studio launched a nationwide campaign, auditioning hundreds of hopefuls in a search for just the right Native American actor to play Jacob Black. They never did find one — Lautner, turns out, is French, Dutch, and German — but it was a lot of work. Of course, nobody back then could have anticipated just how huge a phenomenon the first Twilight movie would become — or how much would end up riding on the casting of its sequel. Even if Lautner does keep his job, he may be nervous enough to start pulling his fur out. Source: www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20234559_20234567_20250477_2,00.html

Confirmed: Taylor Lautner WILL be Jacob in New Moon!An official announcement from New Moon director Chris Weitz has just been posted on Stephenie Meyer's official site: I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris WeitzThis is what Stephine Meyer had to add about Taylor coming back. I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

"New Moon" News: Vanessa Hudgens in for Leah? Rumors are swirling that Vanessa Hudgens, cutie from the "High School Musical" movies might be close to signing as the character of Leah in "New Moon." Wow, I really can’t see her in the role at all. What do you guys think about this? Maybe I need to stop thinking of her in terms of the HSM movies, since those are pretty much a done deal. I mean, she has to move on, right? The "Twilight" sequel is in the works, with Chris Weitz in as director and filming scheduled to begin in March. Source: www.filmgecko.com/new-moon-news-vanessa-hudgens-in-for-leah/I hope with all my heart that this is a nasty rumour and NEVER comes true!! I would HATE her to be in New Moon! Jackson Rathbone Thinks 'New Moon' Will Be 'Pretty Fantastic' 'I'm excited to get a chance to look at it,' the 'Twilight' star says of the sequel's script.WEST HOLLYWOOD, California — Some movie stars like to make news, while others like to gossip about the news that goes on around them. And then there's stars like the fast-rising Jackson Rathbone, who'd rather just show up, be handed a script and get to work. "I actually have not read it," Rathbone recently told MTV about the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" during an exclusive interview — we caught up with him this week for a concert by the actor's side-project band, 100 Monkeys. "They have not yet released the script. So I'm still waiting on that, but I assume it's going to be pretty fantastic." When we asked Rathbone about the controversies surrounding new director Chris Weitz replacing "Twilight" filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke, his reply was simple and honest, just like something you might hear from his character Jasper Hale. "Oh, that's one of those things that's kind of a whole political side of the acting thing, you know?" he shrugged. "I really don't know much about [the change in directors]; I'm just an actor. They tell me where to stand and what to say." Asked what he thought "American Pie" filmmaker Weitz might bring to the franchise, Rathbone responded, "Honestly, I don't know his work very well, so I couldn't really say one way or another." He has, however, already read "New Moon" and can pinpoint his favorite scene — a pivotal moment that kicks off the story. "There is definitely ; there's a scene where Miss Bella gets a little paper cut, and it makes me a little hungry," he laughed. "So, I'm very excited to film that."
Rathbone added that his improvisational band (which MTV will have a full concert story on next week) has been providing him with an outlet to practice the hunger-fueled rage that will overtake his thirsty vampire in that scene opposite Kristen Stewart. "Utter release," he grinned, a bit sadistically. "I do it onstage every night."
In another moment of sincerity, Rathbone surprised us with the revelation that he hadn't even heard about the recently ended controversy over replacing Taylor Lautner for the sequels. "Oh, now you're talking things that they don't tell us poor little actors — really, they just tell us where to stand, what to say," he insisted, adding that he hasn't even been monitoring all the Twilighter chatter over the last few months. "I barely know how to work my phone, let alone the Internet."
So, instead, Rathbone will continue working on 100 Monkeys — who will release two albums this year — as well as such upcoming films as M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender." And, come March, he'll show up on the "New Moon" set, grab a script and get to work.
"Melissa Rosenberg is just an incredible writer," he said, expressing hope for the next script from the screenwriter of the franchise. "I've been a fan of the 'Dexter' series for a long time, and working with her on 'Twilight' was fantastic and I'm excited to get a chance to look at it. I'm sure she's just jam-packed it with so much stuff, to make all the fans go crazy."

New Moon - Another rewrite for the script By Katie Byrne, with reporting by Larry Carroll With all the "New Moon" casting rumors that have been floating around since "Twilight" hit theaters, we were especially wondering who would play werewolf Leah Clearwater, Jacob Black's feisty and heartbroken frienemy. Well, one of the rumored actresses in the running — "High School Musical" starlet Vanessa Hudgens — has apparently taken the next step and auditioned for the role, according to "Twilight" actress Ashley Greene. We ran into Alice herself at a Golden Globes afterparty, and she told us she'd be happy to co-star with Hudgens. "I think she'd be great," Greene enthused. Besides casting, Greene also had some news on the status of "New Moon." "I hear they're doing another rewrite," the actress revealed of the in-flux script. "I'm with you guys — I'm so excited to read it." www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1602491/20090112/story.jhtml

Exclusive: EDI GATHEGI CONFIRMS HE WILL REPRISE HIS ROLE AS LAURENT IN THE 'TWILIGHT' SEQUEL 'NEW MOON'LOCATION: Westwood, CA THE SKINNY: While speaking about his role as a Sheriff Deputy in the new horror film MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D (which opens this Friday), actor Edi Gathegi confirmed to iF Magazine that he will indeed be in the new TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON reprising his role as the vampire Laurent set to commence under director Chris Weitz. “Yes, I am in the movie,” Gathegi tells iF. Of course, anyone familiar with the Stephenie Meyer penned NEW MOON novel, knows that things don’t turn out so great for Laurent, but Gathegi is hopeful there might be more of him in the two subsequent sequels after that. “NEW MOON would be my last one, unless they do something different with the third movie,” he says. “I’m talked about in the third or fourth book I’m not sure if they’ll do some flashbacks [in the movies] and I’ll be working for the flashbacks or if they’ll use existing footage from TWILIGHT. I have no idea.” As for the controversy surrounding TWILIGHT director Catherine Hardwicke not helming NEW MOON, Gathegi says he knows about as much as everyone else. “I don’t know the politics involved in it,” he says. “I haven’t had the chance to talk with her since then. She’s a friend of mine and I adore her. I assume it’s all for the right reasons. It’s mutual. She obviously didn’t feel she was going to get enough time. That’s what I’ve read. I don’t know the details of what happened. I know I am excited to work with Chris Weitz, I’m a fan of his work and he’s super capable of helming the next project, which has so much CGI. It’s a big film. I think he’s a good man and a good choice.” Source: www.ifmagazine.com/new.asp?article=7402
