Okay, I just watched the first episode, and I loved it...a LOT!! I'd just post my thoughts in Charlotte's thread, but I'm still only on the first ep, and don't want to ruin it for myself. I haven't read any spoilers or anything. So here are my thoughts.... Mick is my kinda guy...he likes garlic on his pizza, drinks "non-fat soy vegan" blood according to his friend, has the coolest apartment in the world, , likes it cold when he sleeps and only goes after the really bad guys. I can tell already that I'm going to love Mick and Beth together. I knew that little girl was Beth the moment I saw her. She is his destiny...despite the slight problem of him being undead...but, hey nobody's perfect! He even likes my blood type, A+....not that that's really I good thing. I like the opening scene where he's dreaming. It opens just like Anne Rice's book Interview with a Vampire, and like Lestat, Mick also has a soft spot for the mortals. I also love Evanescence and they played My Immortal in the final scene. That was a great song choice, and fit the moment perfectly. He is Beth's immortal. Alex does a great accent. I would never guess it wasn't his real accent. Not only is he doing an American accent, but it is a Jersey accent no less. I don't know who the actress is who plays Beth, but MAN, she reminds me a lot of Kate Winslett. Her accent is not so good...its not terrible, but she's obviously British...or at least not American. I wonder why they make them do the accents anyway. I'd rather hear their real voices than a boring American accent any day. I'm going to stop saying accent now. Beth works for Buzz wire...and when they said that, I was like, "She works for Budweiser...how weird." ;D Did I mention how much I like this show already?! It's SO GOOD, and well written. The dialogue is clever. I like how Beth was making fun of the "gotharama" She had a few funny insults for those Emo vampire wannabe kids in the study group, but I can't think of any of them right now. I'm looking forward to ep 2.

Episode 2 I had to watch some more. The end was sad. "What are you?" That broke my heart...it's not WHAT, it's WHO? Mick has a beautiful soul, even though he's a vampire. He feels for people, and that is why he is the way he is. It's like he became a vampire, but somehow retained a soul...so now he's somewhere in the middle. That killer tries to tell Mick that they are the same, because they both kill, but that's not true. Mick kills BECAUSE he cares. He kills people who are hurting others. The killer has no conscience or shred of humanity left in him. It's ironic, actually. The vampire is more human. So now we know that a full moon has no effect, but that silver, fire and decapitation will kill him. And that digital camera's can capture a vampire's image...who knew?! I really like the running commentary on humanity, too. He says things like, "Humans don't know how to properly deal with t heir bad guys" and "When you live forever, its disappointing how little humans change." I'm not immortal, but these are things I believe too. This show is what New Amsterdam tries to be. Both shows have a virtually immortal main character, who you follow through time via flashbacks. And both are detectives. But as much as I want to love New Amsterdam, it's not as good. The crimes aren't as interesting, and the lives of the protagonist are not as compelling. The music is right on in this show. In ep 1, I loved the use of My Immortal, and now in this ep, Mick sat in a club back in the 80s with Hungry Like the Wolf by ancient 80s band Duran Duran playing. That is brilliant!! That is the perfect song for that moment. Bobby said to Mick, "How do you stay so fit?" and Mick says, "Diet"...well, blood is literally the only diet I've never tried. I guess it would be high protein and low fat, but still.....ew. And what is it about Mick that is so freaking hot? He's not even good looking! But he's hot as hell!! I don't get it. But I love him! Maybe it's that he is so clearly in love with Beth, but is so afraid of hurting her that he won't even admit it to himself. That's true love my friends! Undead love is hot! And one last thing...Beth saved his life. He saved her, and now she saved him. And now she knows he's a vampire. They are on even footing, with no secrets at the end of ep. 2. And I need to know what happens next!! I have to thank Wenders, Zee and Char for telling me to watch. Thanks to you guys!! I remember seeing the promos way back before the show premiered, and I just knew I'd love this show, but life is so freaking busy and it can get away from you pretty quickly. So I missed the first few eps and I really hate watching this kind of a show out of order, so I never watched until now. By the end of the week...or maybe 2 weeks, I hope to be caught up. Okay, one last thing and this is really the last thing. If there isn't a season 2, I'm going to personally fly to LA and throttle the exec that canceled Moonlight!! I need to sign that petition!!

I love your comments Amy, you're hilarious!! ;D One thing though, it's not fair to compare New Amsterdam to Moonlight because Moonlight is just so much better, but that in no way, shape or form means that New Amsterdam is a bad show!

No, New Amsterdam isn't a bad show at all. But it has some similarities to Moonlight...but isn't as good. At least it isn't as good so far. I should give it more of a chance. But Moonlight sucked me in with the opening credits, unlike New Amsterdam.
